| 2“Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries. | 2"Give these instructions to the Israelites, and tell them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that has been assigned to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan with its borders, |
| 3The southern portion of your country will extend from the wilderness of Zin, along the edge of Edom. The southern boundary will begin on the east at the Dead Sea. | 3your southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the Edomite border, and your southern border will run eastward to the extremity of the Salt Sea, |
| 4It will then run south past Scorpion Pass in the direction of Zin. Its southernmost point will be Kadesh-barnea, from which it will go to Hazar-addar, and on to Azmon. | 4and then the border will turn from the south to the Scorpion Ascent, continue to Zin, and then its direction will be from the south to Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. |
| 5From Azmon the boundary will turn toward the Brook of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea. | 5There the border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and then its direction is to the sea. |
| 6“Your western boundary will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. | 6"'And for a western border you will have the Great Sea. This will be your western border. |
| 7“Your northern boundary will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and run east to Mount Hor, | 7"'And this will be your northern border: From the Great Sea you will draw a line to Mount Hor; |
| 8then to Lebo-hamath, and on through Zedad | 8from Mount Hor you will draw a line to Lebo Hamath, and the direction of the border will be to Zedad. |
| 9and Ziphron to Hazar-enan. This will be your northern boundary. | 9The border will continue to Ziphron, and its direction will be to Hazar Enan. This will be your northern border. |
| 10“The eastern boundary will start at Hazar-enan and run south to Shepham, | 10"'For your eastern border you will draw a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. |
| 11then down to Riblah on the east side of Ain. From there the boundary will run down along the eastern edge of the Sea of Galilee, | 11The border will run down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border will descend and reach the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12and then along the Jordan River to the Dead Sea. These are the boundaries of your land.” | 12Then the border will continue down the Jordan River and its direction will be to the Salt Sea. This will be your land by its borders that surround it.'" |
| 13Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The LORD has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes. | 13Then Moses commanded the Israelites: "This is the land which you will inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes, |
| 14The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land | 14because the tribe of the Reubenites by their families, the tribe of the Gadites by their families, and half of the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. |
| 15on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.” Leaders to Divide the Land | 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, toward the sunrise." |
| 16And the LORD said to Moses, | 16The LORD said to Moses: |
| 17“Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun are the men designated to divide the grants of land among the people. | 17"These are the names of the men who are to allocate the land to you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. |
| 18Enlist one leader from each tribe to help them with the task. | 18You must take one leader from every tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. |
| 19These are the tribes and the names of the leaders: Tribe Leader Judah Caleb son of Jephunneh | 19These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh; |
| 20Simeon Shemuel son of Ammihud | 20from the tribe of the Simeonites, Shemuel son of Ammihud; |
| 21Benjamin Elidad son of Kislon | 21from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Kislon; |
| 22Dan Bukki son of Jogli | 22and from the tribe of the Danites, a leader, Bukki son of Jogli. |
| 23Manasseh son of Joseph Hanniel son of Ephod | 23From the Josephites, Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh; |
| 24Ephraim son of Joseph Kemuel son of Shiphtan | 24from the tribe of the Ephraimites, a leader, Kemuel son of Shiphtan; |
| 25Zebulun Elizaphan son of Parnach | 25from the tribe of the Zebulunites, a leader, Elizaphan son of Parnach; |
| 26Issachar Paltiel son of Azzan | 26from the tribe of the Issacharites, a leader, Paltiel son of Azzan; |
| 27Asher Ahihud son of Shelomi | 27from the tribe of the Asherites, a leader, Ahihud son of Shelomi; |
| 28Naphtali Pedahel son of Ammihud | 28and from the tribe of the Naphtalites, a leader, Pedahel son of Ammihud." |
| 29These are the men the LORD has appointed to divide the grants of land in Canaan among the Israelites.” | 29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide up the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan. |
