Woe to Tyrants

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,1Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression,1Woe to those who enact evil statutes And to those who constantly record unjust decisions,1Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;1Woe to those enacting crooked statutes and writing oppressive laws
to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.2to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!2So as to deprive the needy of justice And rob the poor of My people of their rights, So that widows may be their spoil And that they may plunder the orphans.2To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!2to keep the poor from getting a fair trial and to deprive the afflicted among my people of justice, so that widows can be their spoil and they can plunder the fatherless.
What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?3What will you do on the day of punishment, in the ruin that will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth?3Now what will you do in the day of punishment, And in the devastation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your wealth?3And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?3What will you do on the day of punishment when devastation comes from far away? Who will you run to for help? Where will you leave your wealth?
Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.4Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.4Nothing remains but to crouch among the captives Or fall among the slain. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away And His hand is still stretched out.4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.4There will be nothing to do except crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. In all this, His anger is not removed, and His hand is still raised to strike.

Judgment on Assyria

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!5Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury!5Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hands is My indignation,5O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.5Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger-- the staff in their hands is My wrath.
I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.6Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.6I send it against a godless nation And commission it against the people of My fury To capture booty and to seize plunder, And to trample them down like mud in the streets.6I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.6I will send him against a godless nation; I will command him to go against a people destined for My rage, to take spoils, to plunder, and to trample them down like clay in the streets.
But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations.7But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few;7Yet it does not so intend, Nor does it plan so in its heart, But rather it is its purpose to destroy And to cut off many nations.7Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.7But this is not what he intends; this is not what he plans. It is his intent to destroy and to cut off many nations.
Are not my commanders all kings?' he says.8for he says: “Are not my commanders all kings?8For it says, "Are not my princes all kings?8For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?8For he says," Aren't all my commanders kings?

Has not Kalno fared like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?9Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?9"Is not Calno like Carchemish, Or Hamath like Arpad, Or Samaria like Damascus?9Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?9Isn't Calno like Carchemish? Isn't Hamath like Arpad? Isn't Samaria like Damascus?
As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria--10As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,10"As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, Whose graven images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,10As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;10As my hand seized the idolatrous kingdoms, whose idols exceeded those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?'"11shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images?”11Shall I not do to Jerusalem and her images Just as I have done to Samaria and her idols?"11Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?11and as I did to Samaria and its idols will I not also do to Jerusalem and its idols?"
When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, "I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.12When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.12So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, "I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the pomp of his haughtiness."12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.12But when the Lord finishes all His work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, He will say, "I will punish the king of Assyria for his arrogant acts and the proud look in his eyes."
For he says: "'By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings.13For he says: “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding; I remove the boundaries of peoples, and plunder their treasures; like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.13For he has said, "By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, For I have understanding; And I removed the boundaries of the peoples And plundered their treasures, And like a mighty man I brought down their inhabitants,13For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:13For he said: I have done this by my own strength and wisdom, for I am clever. I abolished the borders of nations and plundered their treasures; like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.

As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as people gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.'"14My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken, so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing or opened the mouth or chirped.”14And my hand reached to the riches of the peoples like a nest, And as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; And there was not one that flapped its wing or opened its beak or chirped."14And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.14My hand has reached out, as if into a nest, to seize the wealth of the nations. Like one gathering abandoned eggs, I gathered the whole earth. No wing fluttered; no beak opened or chirped.
Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!15Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!15Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, Or like a rod lifting him who is not wood.15Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.15Does an ax exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a staff waving the one who lifts it! It would be like a rod lifting a man who isn't wood!
Therefore, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.16Therefore the Lord GOD of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors, and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire.16Therefore the Lord, the GOD of hosts, will send a wasting disease among his stout warriors; And under his glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame.16Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.16Therefore the Lord GOD of Hosts will inflict an emaciating disease on the well-fed of Assyria, and He will kindle a burning fire under its glory.
The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.17The light of Israel will become a fire, and his Holy One a flame, and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day.17And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame, And it will burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;17Israel's Light will become a fire, and its Holy One, a flame. In one day it will burn up Assyria's thorns and thistles.
The splendor of his forests and fertile fields it will completely destroy, as when a sick person wastes away.18The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land the LORD will destroy, both soul and body, and it will be as when a sick man wastes away.18And He will destroy the glory of his forest and of his fruitful garden, both soul and body, And it will be as when a sick man wastes away.18And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.18He will completely destroy the glory of its forests and orchards as a sickness consumes a person.
And the remaining trees of his forests will be so few that a child could write them down.19The remnant of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child can write them down.19And the rest of the trees of his forest will be so small in number That a child could write them down.19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.19The remaining trees of its forest will be so few in number that a child could count them.

A Remnant of Israel Shall Return

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.20In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.20Now in that day the remnant of Israel, and those of the house of Jacob who have escaped, will never again rely on the one who struck them, but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.20And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.20On that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no longer depend on the one who struck them, but they will faithfully depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.21A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.21A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.21The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.
Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.22For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.22For though your people, O Israel, may be like the sand of the sea, Only a remnant within them will return; A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.22For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.22Israel, even if your people were as numerous as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction has been decreed; justice overflows.
The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.23For the Lord GOD of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth.23For a complete destruction, one that is decreed, the Lord GOD of hosts will execute in the midst of the whole land.23For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.23For throughout the land the Lord GOD of Hosts is carrying out a destruction that was decreed.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: "My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.24Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: “O my people, who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrians when they strike with the rod and lift up their staff against you as the Egyptians did.24Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts, "O My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian who strikes you with the rod and lifts up his staff against you, the way Egypt did.24Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.24Therefore, the Lord GOD of Hosts says this: "My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria, though he strikes you with a rod and raises his staff over you as the Egyptians did.
Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction."25For in a very little while my fury will come to an end, and my anger will be directed to their destruction.25"For in a very little while My indignation against you will be spent and My anger will be directed to their destruction."25For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.25In just a little while My wrath will be spent and My anger will turn to their destruction."
The LORD Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt.26And the LORD of hosts will wield against them a whip, as when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb. And his staff will be over the sea, and he will lift it as he did in Egypt.26The LORD of hosts will arouse a scourge against him like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and His staff will be over the sea and He will lift it up the way He did in Egypt.26And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.26And the LORD of Hosts will brandish a whip against him as He did when He struck Midian at the rock of Oreb; and He will raise His staff over the sea as He did in Egypt.
In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.27And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.”27So it will be in that day, that his burden will be removed from your shoulders and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be broken because of fatness.27And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.27On that day his burden will fall from your shoulders, and his yoke from your neck. The yoke will be broken because of fatness.
They enter Aiath; they pass through Migron; they store supplies at Mikmash.28He has come to Aiath; he has passed through Migron; at Michmash he stores his baggage;28He has come against Aiath, He has passed through Migron; At Michmash he deposited his baggage.28He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:28Assyria has come to Aiath and has gone through Migron, storing his equipment at Michmash.

They go over the pass, and say, "We will camp overnight at Geba." Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul flees.29they have crossed over the pass; at Geba they lodge for the night; Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul has fled.29They have gone through the pass, saying, "Geba will be our lodging place." Ramah is terrified, and Gibeah of Saul has fled away.29They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.29They crossed over at the ford, saying," We will spend the night at Geba." The people of Ramah are trembling; those at Gibeah of Saul have fled.
Cry out, Daughter Gallim! Listen, Laishah! Poor Anathoth!30Cry aloud, O daughter of Gallim! Give attention, O Laishah! O poor Anathoth!30Cry aloud with your voice, O daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah and wretched Anathoth!30Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.30Cry aloud, daughter of Gallim! Listen, Laishah! Anathoth is miserable.
Madmenah is in flight; the people of Gebim take cover.31Madmenah is in flight; the inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.31Madmenah has fled. The inhabitants of Gebim have sought refuge.31Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.31Madmenah has fled. The inhabitants of Gebim have sought refuge.
This day they will halt at Nob; they will shake their fist at the mount of Daughter Zion, at the hill of Jerusalem.32This very day he will halt at Nob; he will shake his fist at the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.32Yet today he will halt at Nob; He shakes his fist at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.32As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.32Today he will stand at Nob, shaking his fist at the mountain of Daughter Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
See, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will lop off the boughs with great power. The lofty trees will be felled, the tall ones will be brought low.33Behold, the Lord GOD of hosts will lop the boughs with terrifying power; the great in height will be hewn down, and the lofty will be brought low.33Behold, the Lord, the GOD of hosts, will lop off the boughs with a terrible crash; Those also who are tall in stature will be cut down And those who are lofty will be abased.33Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.33Look, the Lord GOD of Hosts will chop off the branches with terrifying power, and the tall trees will be cut down, the high trees felled.
He will cut down the forest thickets with an ax; Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One.34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an axe, and Lebanon will fall by the Majestic One.34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe, And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.34He is clearing the thickets of the forest with an ax, and Lebanon with its majesty will fall.
