How can we build community temples today?
In what ways can we "build the temple" in our communities today?

Laying the Scriptural Cornerstone

“you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5)

“Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

Why the Temple Still Matters

– The New-Covenant “temple” is God’s people gathered (Ephesians 2:19-22).

– When the household of faith is strong, the surrounding community sees a living testimony (Matthew 5:14-16).

– Neglect invites spiritual drought, just as in Haggai’s day (Haggai 1:7-8).

Building Blocks for Today’s Temple

• Discipleship:

– Invest time in one-to-one Bible reading and mentoring (2 Timothy 2:2).

– Encourage every believer to grow from milk to solid food (Hebrews 5:12-14).

• Worship and Word-Centered Gatherings:

– Prioritize corporate worship where Scripture is read, preached, and sung (Colossians 3:16).

– Guard the pulpit so only sound doctrine is taught (Titus 2:1).

• Prayer Foundations:

– Establish regular prayer meetings; “My house will be called a house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13).

– Mobilize neighborhood prayer walks, inviting God’s presence into streets and homes (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• Holiness and Accountability:

– Create small groups where confession and restoration occur (James 5:16).

– Confront sin lovingly but firmly to keep the “house” clean (1 Corinthians 5:6-7).

• Loving Unity:

– Celebrate ethnic and generational diversity as one body (Galatians 3:28).

– Resolve conflicts quickly, refusing to give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27).

• Acts of Service:

– Meet tangible needs—food, shelter, counseling—so the community experiences Christ’s compassion (James 2:15-17).

– Encourage every member to identify and use spiritual gifts (1 Peter 4:10-11).

• Evangelism and Witness:

– Share the gospel publicly and personally (Romans 1:16).

– Live noticeably different lives that provoke questions (1 Peter 3:15).

• Stewardship and Generosity:

– Fund ministry and missions with joyful giving (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

– Maintain and improve church facilities so they proclaim excellence (1 Chronicles 29:1-9 principle).

• Raising Godly Families:

– Equip parents to disciple children at home (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

– Provide Christ-centered teaching for all ages so faith roots deepen early (Proverbs 22:6).

Putting Hammer to Nail

1. Begin with personal surrender; a yielded life is the first “stone.”

2. Join with other believers; stones only form a “house” when fitted together (Ephesians 4:16).

3. Keep Christ as the chief cornerstone; every plan, program, and brick aligns with Him (1 Peter 2:6-7).

4. Trust the Spirit’s power; He fills, seals, and unites the structure (Ephesians 2:22).

The Result

When these practices shape our communities, God’s glory fills the living temple just as tangibly as it once filled Solomon’s (2 Chronicles 7:1-3). Outsiders see and are drawn to the light, and the name of Jesus is honored in every street and home.
