How can we show love for God and others?
In what ways can we demonstrate love for God and neighbor today?

Setting the Scene

Luke 10:25–28:

“On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he asked, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’

‘What is written in the Law?’ Jesus replied. ‘How do you read it?’

He answered, ‘ “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind;” and, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” ’

‘You have answered correctly,’ Jesus said. ‘Do this and you will live.’”

Why Love Is Central

Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18 supply the commands Jesus cites.

Matthew 22:37-40: “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

John 14:15: “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

Love is not optional—it is the pulse of true faith.

Loving God Today

Scripture calls for total devotion—heart, soul, strength, mind. Practical expressions include:

• Wholehearted worship (Psalm 95:6)

• Consistent Scripture intake (Psalm 119:105)

• Unceasing prayer and thanksgiving (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18)

• Cheerful obedience to every clear command (James 1:22)

• Pursuit of holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16)

• Stewardship of time, talents, and treasure for His glory (Proverbs 3:9)

• Joyful proclamation of the gospel (Matthew 28:19-20)

• Delighting in God more than in His gifts (Psalm 73:25-26)

Loving Our Neighbor Today

The parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37) turns love into action. Ways to embody that compassion:

• Notice needs and move toward them, not past them (Luke 10:33-34)

• Provide tangible help—food, shelter, medical care (James 2:15-17)

• Show hospitality to strangers and outcasts (Hebrews 13:2)

• Speak life-giving words of encouragement (Proverbs 12:25)

• Practice forgiveness and reconciliation (Ephesians 4:32)

• Uphold truth and integrity in every relationship (Zechariah 8:16)

• Seek justice for the vulnerable—unborn, elderly, poor, oppressed (Micah 6:8; Psalm 139:13-16)

• Give generously to missions and mercy ministries (2 Corinthians 9:7)

• Pray regularly for friends, enemies, leaders, nations (1 Timothy 2:1)

• Celebrate every human made in God’s image, regardless of background (Genesis 1:27)

Living the Good Samaritan Lifestyle

• Love initiates; it doesn’t wait.

• Love sacrifices; it costs time, convenience, and resources.

• Love perseveres; it commits to follow-through, not quick fixes.

• Love reflects Christ, who “loved us and gave Himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:2).

Empowered to Love

Romans 5:5: “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Rely on His indwelling power, and today—right where you are—let wholehearted devotion to God overflow into practical, compassionate service to every neighbor He places in your path.
