How to approach God with Jesus as priest?
How can we draw near to God, knowing Jesus is "a great priest"?

Our Great Priest and Open Access

Hebrews 10:21 says we “have a great priest over the house of God.” Because Jesus is alive and reigning, the way into God’s presence is permanently open.

Hebrews 10:19 adds, “we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus.” His sacrifice removed every barrier.

• Unlike Israel’s high priest who entered once a year, Jesus serves forever (Hebrews 7:24-25). His priesthood guarantees our welcome any time we come.

Why Jesus’ Priesthood Matters

• Perfect Mediator—1 Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” No other go-between is needed.

• Permanent Cleansing—1 John 1:7: “The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We don’t draw near on our merit but on His finished work.

• Personal Sympathy—Hebrews 4:15: “We do not have a high priest unable to sympathize… but One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet without sin.” He understands and welcomes us.

Drawing Near: Practical Steps

1. Believe the Open Door

Hebrews 10:22: “let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.” Take God at His word—no hesitation, no fear.

2. Confess and Cleanse

Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God.” Transparent repentance keeps fellowship unhindered.

1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive.”

3. Speak Freely

Hebrews 4:16: “Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence.” Bring praise, needs, doubts—everything.

4. Listen Attentively

John 10:27: “My sheep listen to My voice.” Read Scripture expecting the Spirit to apply it personally.

5. Worship Continually

Hebrews 13:15: “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.” Turn ordinary moments into thankful worship.

Guardrails for Our Hearts

• Hold the Confession—Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess.” Guard doctrine; stay anchored in the gospel.

• Keep a Clean Conscience—Hebrews 10:22 mentions “our hearts sprinkled clean.” We maintain closeness by refusing persistent sin.

• Cultivate Reverence—Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 warns to “draw near to listen” and not speak rashly before God. Boldness never cancels reverence.

Encouraging One Another

Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds… encouraging one another.” Corporate worship, small groups, and Christian friendship fan the flame of drawing near.

1 Peter 2:9 reminds believers we are “a royal priesthood.” Together we mirror our Great Priest by offering lives of praise and service.

Because Jesus is the great priest, the Father’s throne is a throne of grace. Confidence, cleansing, and communion are ours—so let’s step in and stay close.
