God’s Faithful Voice in Deuteronomy 2:31

“ And the LORD said to me, ‘See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to possess it, so that you may inherit his land.’ ” (Deuteronomy 2:31)

Notice the pattern already unfolding

• The promise is spoken in real time, to a real leader, over a real stretch of land.

• God does not invite Israel to strategize first; He simply declares, “I have begun.”

• Israel is called to step into what the Lord has already set in motion—evidence of His unwavering faithfulness.

Echoes of Faithfulness in Earlier Deliverance

Exodus 14:13-14—“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and see the LORD’s salvation… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

• The Red Sea crossing proves that once God commits to deliver, every obstacle bows.

• What He began at Egypt’s border, He continues east of the Jordan.

Crossing the Jordan and Conquering Jericho

Joshua 1:2-3—“Arise, cross this Jordan… Every place on which the sole of your foot treads I have given you.”

Joshua 6 shows the walls of Jericho falling without a single battering ram—again, God starts the victory, Israel merely walks it out.

Joshua 21:45 affirms the outcome: “Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

Battlefield Assurance with Gideon

Judges 7:9—“That night the LORD said to him, ‘Get up and go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.’ ”

• A mere 300 men defeat Midian, reinforcing that God’s word of deliverance precedes human action.

Covenant Kept with Abraham and Sarah

Genesis 21:1-2—“The LORD visited Sarah as He had said… Sarah conceived and bore a son…”

• From Genesis 12 onward, God’s sworn oath unfolds across generations, demonstrating the same “I have begun” certainty found in Deuteronomy 2:31.

Protection in Exile

Daniel 3:17—“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us.”

Daniel 6:22—“My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths.”

• Even far from the Promised Land, God’s commitment to His people remains unbreakable.

Ultimate Fulfillment in Christ

2 Corinthians 1:20—“For all the promises of God are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

Romans 8:32—“He who did not spare His own Son… how will He not also… graciously give us all things?”

• The climax of divine faithfulness is the cross and empty tomb, sealing every earlier pledge.

Living in the Flow of the Same Faithfulness

Hebrews 10:23—“Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”

Philippians 1:6—“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”

• The God who said, “I have begun to deliver Sihon” is still beginning—and finishing—works of grace in His people today.

How can believers today trust God's promises as seen in Deuteronomy 2:31?
