Jesus confronts those who claimed Abraham as their father while rejecting Abraham’s faith and seeking to kill God’s Son. Physical descent from Abraham did not guarantee spiritual kinship with God. Spiritual parentage is revealed by allegiance, character, and deeds; the children of God practice righteousness, while those who persist in evil display the devil’s influence.

Their intention to kill Jesus reflected Satan’s hostility toward God’s truth and God’s Messiah. Sin does not remain neutral; it draws the human heart into rebellion against God’s will. The desire to silence Christ exposed a deeper rejection of the Father who sent Him.

He was a murderer from the beginning,

Satan brought death into human experience through his deception in Eden. By leading Eve and Adam into disobedience, he became the destroyer of human life and fellowship with God. Cain’s murder of Abel later showed how Satan’s murderous hatred works through human sin.
