The term "deposeth" is an archaic form of the verb "depose," which means to remove from office or position, especially one of power or authority. In the context of the Bible, it often refers to God's sovereign ability to remove kings and leaders according to His divine will and purpose. This concept underscores the belief in God's ultimate authority over human affairs and the transient nature of earthly power.

One of the most notable references to this concept is found in the Book of Daniel. In Daniel 2:21 , it is written: "He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." This passage highlights God's control over the rise and fall of leaders, emphasizing that no ruler holds power apart from His allowance.

The theme of God deposing rulers is also evident in the account of King Nebuchadnezzar. In Daniel 4, Nebuchadnezzar is humbled by God, losing his sanity and kingdom until he acknowledges God's sovereignty. Daniel 4:31-32 states: "While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: 'It is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that your kingdom has been removed from you. You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox, and seven times will pass you by until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He wishes.'"

The New Testament also reflects this theme. In Luke 1:52 , part of Mary's Magnificat, it is proclaimed: "He has brought down rulers from their thrones, but has exalted the humble." This verse reiterates the idea that God actively intervenes in human history, elevating the humble and deposing the proud and powerful.

The concept of "deposeth" serves as a reminder of the biblical principle that all authority is established by God, as seen in Romans 13:1 : "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God." This reinforces the belief that God is the ultimate judge and ruler, and human leaders are accountable to Him.

Throughout Scripture, the deposing of leaders is often linked to their moral and spiritual failures. The removal of King Saul, as described in 1 Samuel 15, is a prime example. Saul's disobedience to God's commands leads to his rejection as king, illustrating the principle that God deposes those who fail to uphold His standards.

In summary, the concept of "deposeth" in the Bible emphasizes God's supreme authority over human rulers and the temporal nature of earthly power. It serves as a powerful reminder of the divine order and the accountability of leaders to God's righteous standards.
