Definition and Concept:
In biblical terms, "enlargement" often refers to the expansion or increase of territory, influence, or capacity. This concept can be both physical and spiritual, symbolizing growth, blessing, and divine favor. Enlargement is frequently associated with God's promises and the fulfillment of His covenant with His people.

Old Testament References:

1. Territorial Expansion:
· The idea of enlargement is prominently seen in God's promises to the patriarchs. In Genesis 26:22, Isaac experiences God's blessing as he digs wells and finds room to prosper: "He moved on from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Rehoboth and said, 'Now the LORD has given us room, and we will flourish in the land.'"
· The promise of land and expansion is a recurring theme in God's covenant with Israel. In Exodus 34:24, God assures the Israelites of their territorial enlargement: "For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders."

2. Spiritual and National Growth:
· Enlargement is also seen in the context of spiritual growth and the increase of God's people. In Isaiah 54:2-3, the prophet encourages Israel to prepare for growth: "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities."

New Testament References:

1. Spiritual Capacity:
· In the New Testament, the concept of enlargement can be understood as the expansion of spiritual capacity and influence. The Apostle Paul speaks of the growth of the church and the spread of the Gospel as a form of enlargement. In 2 Corinthians 10:15-16, Paul expresses his hope for the expansion of his ministry: "Neither do we boast beyond our limits in the labors of others. But our hope is that as your faith increases, our area of influence among you will greatly increase as well, so that we can preach the gospel in the regions beyond you."

2. Kingdom Growth:
· The parables of Jesus often illustrate the idea of the Kingdom of God expanding and growing. In Matthew 13:31-32, Jesus compares the Kingdom to a mustard seed that grows into a large tree: "He told them another parable: 'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man planted in his field. Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.'"

Theological Implications:

· Divine Blessing and Favor:
Enlargement is often seen as a sign of God's blessing and favor. It reflects His desire to see His people prosper and fulfill their divine purpose. The expansion of territory, influence, or spiritual capacity is viewed as a fulfillment of God's promises and a testament to His faithfulness.

· Responsibility and Stewardship:
With enlargement comes responsibility. The biblical narrative suggests that as God enlarges the territory or influence of His people, they are called to be good stewards of the blessings they receive. This includes using their increased capacity to further God's purposes and to bless others.

· Faith and Obedience:
The concept of enlargement is closely tied to faith and obedience. The biblical accounts often show that enlargement follows acts of faith and obedience to God's commands. As believers trust in God's promises and walk in His ways, they experience growth and expansion in various aspects of their lives.

In summary, the biblical concept of enlargement encompasses both physical and spiritual growth, reflecting God's promises and the fulfillment of His covenant with His people. It signifies divine blessing, responsibility, and the call to faith and obedience.

ENLARGE; ENLARGEMENT

en-larj', en-larj'-ment:

"To enlarge" is very frequently used figuratively: "God enlarge Japheth" (Genesis 9:27), i.e. "make him a great nation"; or "Thou hast enlarged my steps under me" (2 Samuel 22:37), i.e. "Thou hast given me success." A very peculiar use of "enlarge" is found in the King James Version Psalm 4:1: "Thou hast enlarged me" (the Revised Version (British and American) "set me at large"), i.e. "Thou hast given me freedom, deliverance from distress." "Our heart is enlarged" (platuno; 2 Corinthians 6:11), and "Be ye also enlarged" (2 Corinthians 6:13), express great love of one party to another. See also 1 Samuel 2:1, "My mouth is enlarged," i.e. "full of praise." Ezekiel 41:7, "were broader" (the King James Version "an enlarging").

Enlargement, the King James Version, Esther 4:14 from rawach, "to enlarge," "to respite," is rendered "relief" by the Revised Version (British and American) in better harmony with "deliverance" with which the word is paired.
