In the context of the Bible, "granting" refers to the act of giving, bestowing, or allowing something, often as an act of grace or favor. This concept is deeply rooted in the character of God, who is depicted as the ultimate giver, granting blessings, wisdom, and salvation to His people.

Divine Granting

God's nature as a generous giver is evident throughout Scripture. In James 1:5 , it is written, "Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." This passage highlights God's willingness to grant wisdom to those who seek it earnestly. The act of granting is not limited to wisdom alone; it encompasses all aspects of divine provision.

In the Old Testament, God grants the desires of His people when they align with His will. For instance, in 1 Kings 3:9-12 , Solomon asks for wisdom to govern the people, and God grants his request, saying, "I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has never been anyone like you, nor will there ever be."

Granting of Salvation

The New Testament emphasizes the granting of salvation through Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 2:8 , Paul writes, "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God." Salvation is portrayed as a divine grant, a gift that cannot be earned but is freely given by God's grace.

Human Granting

While divine granting is a central theme, the Bible also addresses the human responsibility to grant to others. Believers are encouraged to emulate God's generosity. In Luke 6:38 , Jesus teaches, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." This principle of reciprocity underscores the importance of granting to others as an expression of love and obedience to God.

Granting in Prayer

Prayer is a means through which believers seek God's granting of their requests. In John 14:13-14 , Jesus assures His disciples, "And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." This promise highlights the power of prayer and the assurance that God will grant requests that align with His will and purpose.

Granting of Authority and Gifts

The Bible also speaks of the granting of authority and spiritual gifts. In Matthew 28:18-19 , Jesus declares, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." Here, Jesus grants His disciples the authority to carry out the Great Commission.

Similarly, spiritual gifts are granted to believers for the edification of the church. In 1 Corinthians 12:7 , Paul explains, "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." These gifts are granted by the Holy Spirit to empower believers for service and ministry.

Conclusion

The concept of granting in the Bible encompasses a wide range of divine and human actions, all rooted in the character of God as a generous and gracious giver. Whether it is the granting of wisdom, salvation, authority, or spiritual gifts, the act of granting reflects God's love and purpose for His creation.
