Judgment in the Bible

Judgment is a central theme throughout the Bible, reflecting God's righteousness, justice, and sovereignty. It encompasses both temporal judgments upon nations and individuals and the ultimate eschatological judgment at the end of the age. The concept of divine judgment is rooted in God's holiness and His moral law, which demands accountability for sin and disobedience.

In the Old Testament, judgment often manifests through prophetic declarations and historical events. The prophets frequently warned Israel and surrounding nations of impending judgment due to idolatry, injustice, and covenant unfaithfulness. For instance, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) and the Babylonian exile (2 Kings 25) serve as vivid examples of God's temporal judgment.

The New Testament expands on the theme of judgment, emphasizing the role of Jesus Christ as both Savior and Judge. Jesus speaks of a future day of judgment, where all people will stand before God to give an account of their lives (Matthew 12:36-37). The Apostle Paul reiterates this in Romans 14:10, stating, "For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat."

The Seventh Trumpet
