Elisha, the prophet and successor of Elijah, is a prominent figure in the Old Testament, known for the numerous miracles he performed by the power of God. His ministry is recorded primarily in the books of 1 and 2 Kings, where he serves as a powerful instrument of God's will, demonstrating divine authority and compassion. The miracles of Elisha underscore God's sovereignty, provision, and care for His people.

1. The Parting of the Jordan River (2 Kings 2:13-14): After Elijah was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elisha took Elijah's cloak and struck the waters of the Jordan River, which parted, allowing him to cross on dry ground. This miracle affirmed Elisha's succession and the presence of God's spirit upon him.

2. The Healing of the Waters of Jericho (2 Kings 2:19-22): The men of Jericho approached Elisha, complaining about the city's water supply, which was causing death and barrenness. Elisha threw salt into the spring and declared, "This is what the LORD says: 'I have healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.'" The waters were purified, demonstrating God's power to restore and sustain life.

3. The Curse of the She-Bears (2 Kings 2:23-25): As Elisha traveled to Bethel, a group of youths mocked him, calling him "baldhead." Elisha pronounced a curse in the name of the LORD, and two she-bears emerged from the woods, mauling forty-two of the youths. This event highlighted the seriousness of respecting God's prophets and the consequences of irreverence.

4. The Miracle of the Widow's Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7): A widow of a prophet sought Elisha's help to save her sons from slavery due to debt. Elisha instructed her to gather empty vessels and pour her small amount of oil into them. Miraculously, the oil multiplied until all the vessels were filled, providing enough to pay her debts and sustain her family.

5. The Shunammite Woman's Son (2 Kings 4:8-37): Elisha promised a child to a barren Shunammite woman who had shown him hospitality. The child was born but later died suddenly. Elisha prayed and stretched himself over the child, and the LORD restored the boy to life, demonstrating God's power over life and death.

6. The Poisoned Stew (2 Kings 4:38-41): During a famine, Elisha's servants unknowingly gathered poisonous gourds for a stew. When the men cried out, "There is death in the pot!" Elisha added flour to the pot, and the stew was rendered harmless, showcasing God's provision and protection.

7. The Feeding of a Hundred Men (2 Kings 4:42-44): A man brought Elisha twenty loaves of barley bread and some grain. Elisha instructed his servant to feed a hundred men with it. Despite the small amount, the food was sufficient, and there were leftovers, prefiguring the miraculous feedings in the New Testament.

8. The Healing of Naaman (2 Kings 5:1-14): Naaman, a Syrian commander, sought healing from leprosy. Elisha instructed him to wash seven times in the Jordan River. Initially reluctant, Naaman obeyed and was healed, acknowledging the God of Israel as the one true God.

9. The Floating Axe Head (2 Kings 6:1-7): When a borrowed axe head fell into the Jordan River, Elisha threw a stick into the water, causing the iron to float. This miracle demonstrated God's concern for the everyday needs of His people.

10. The Blinding of the Arameans (2 Kings 6:8-23): When the Aramean army surrounded Elisha, he prayed for them to be struck with blindness. God answered, and Elisha led them to Samaria. Instead of destruction, Elisha instructed the king of Israel to feed them and send them home, illustrating God's mercy and the power of prayer.

11. The Siege of Samaria and the Prophecy of Abundance (2 Kings 6:24-7:20): During a severe famine in Samaria, Elisha prophesied that food would be plentiful the next day. God caused the Arameans to flee, leaving behind provisions that fulfilled Elisha's prophecy, demonstrating God's ability to provide in dire circumstances.

Elisha's miracles serve as a testament to God's active presence and intervention in the lives of His people, affirming His power, compassion, and faithfulness. Through Elisha, God revealed His authority over nature, life, and nations, pointing to His ultimate sovereignty and care for humanity.
