Justice: The Wicked: Call not For

In the biblical context, justice is a fundamental attribute of God's character and a central theme throughout Scripture. It is often depicted as the moral standard by which God governs the universe and expects His people to live. However, the wicked, those who live in opposition to God's laws and righteousness, are frequently portrayed as having a disregard for justice.

The wicked's aversion to justice is highlighted in several passages of the Bible. In the book of Isaiah, the prophet laments the moral decay of society, where justice is neglected: "No one calls for justice; no one pleads his case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments and speak lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to iniquity" (Isaiah 59:4). This verse illustrates the tendency of the wicked to avoid seeking justice, instead engaging in deceit and wrongdoing.

Similarly, in the book of Micah, the prophet condemns the leaders and rulers who abhor justice and twist what is straight: "Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for money. Yet they lean upon the LORD, saying, 'Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us'" (Micah 3:11). Here, the wicked are depicted as those who pervert justice for personal gain, all the while maintaining a false sense of security in their relationship with God.

The Psalms also reflect on the wicked's disregard for justice. In Psalm 10, the psalmist describes the arrogance of the wicked, who believe they will not be held accountable: "He says to himself, 'God has forgotten; He hides His face and never sees'" (Psalm 10:11). This attitude reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of God's nature and His commitment to justice.

Proverbs further contrasts the righteous and the wicked in their approach to justice. Proverbs 28:5 states, "Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD comprehend fully" . This proverb underscores the idea that a true understanding of justice is linked to a relationship with God, which the wicked lack.

The New Testament continues this theme, emphasizing that the wicked will ultimately face divine justice. In Romans 1:18, the apostle Paul writes, "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness" . This passage affirms that God's justice will prevail, even if the wicked do not call for it or recognize its importance.

Throughout Scripture, the wicked's failure to call for justice is a reflection of their rebellion against God and His righteous standards. Their actions and attitudes stand in stark contrast to the biblical call for justice, which is rooted in the character of God and His desire for His people to live in accordance with His will.

None calls for justice, nor any pleads for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
