A Sign against Egypt and Cush

1  בִּשְׁנַ֨ת (In the year) בֹּ֤א (of the coming) תַרְתָּן֙ (of Tartan) אַשְׁדּ֔וֹדָה (to Ashdod), בִּשְׁלֹ֣ח (having sent) אֹת֔וֹ (him) סַֽרְג֖וֹן (Sargon) מֶ֣לֶךְ (the king) אַשּׁ֑וּר (of Assyria), וַיִּלָּ֥חֶם (then he fought) בְּאַשְׁדּ֖וֹד (against Ashdod) וַֽיִּלְכְּדָֽהּ׃ (and captured it). 2  בָּעֵ֣ת (At the time) הַהִ֗יא (that) דִּבֶּ֣ר (spoke) יְהוָה֮ (YHWH) בְּיַ֣ד (by the hand) יְשַׁעְיָ֣הוּ (of Isaiah) בֶן־ (son) אָמוֹץ֮ (of Amoz), לֵאמֹר֒ (saying), לֵ֗ךְ (Go) וּפִתַּחְתָּ֤ (and remove) הַשַּׂק֙ (the sackcloth) מֵעַ֣ל (from) מָתְנֶ֔יךָ (your body), וְנַעַלְךָ֥ (and your sandals) תַחֲלֹ֖ץ (draw off) מֵעַ֣ל (from) רַגְלֶ֑יךָ (your feet).

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ (And he did) כֵּ֔ן (so), הָלֹ֖ךְ (walking) עָר֥וֹם (naked) וְיָחֵֽף׃ס (and barefoot).

3  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (As) הָלַ֛ךְ (has walked) עַבְדִּ֥י (My servant) יְשַׁעְיָ֖הוּ (Isaiah) עָר֣וֹם (naked) וְיָחֵ֑ף (and barefoot) שָׁלֹ֤שׁ (three) שָׁנִים֙ (years) א֣וֹת (as a sign) וּמוֹפֵ֔ת (and a wonder) עַל־ (against) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) וְעַל־ (and against) כּֽוּשׁ׃ (Cush), 4  כֵּ֣ן (so) יִנְהַ֣ג (will lead away) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (the king) אַ֠שּׁוּר (of Assyria) אֶת־ (-) שְׁבִ֨י (the captive) מִצְרַ֜יִם (of Egypt) וְאֶת־ (and) גָּל֥וּת (the exile) כּ֛וּשׁ (of Cush) נְעָרִ֥ים (young) וּזְקֵנִ֖ים (and old), עָר֣וֹם (naked) וְיָחֵ֑ף (and barefoot), וַחֲשׂוּפַ֥י (and uncovered) שֵׁ֖ת (their buttocks) עֶרְוַ֥ת (the nakedness) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt).

5  וְחַתּ֖וּ (And they will be dismayed) וָבֹ֑שׁוּ (and ashamed) מִכּוּשׁ֙ (Cush) מַבָּטָ֔ם (as their hope), וּמִן־ (and of) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) תִּפְאַרְתָּֽם׃ (as their glory). 6  וְ֠אָמַר (And will say) יֹשֵׁ֨ב (the one dwelling on) הָאִ֣י (the seacoast) הַזֶּה֮ (this) בַּיּ֣וֹם (day) הַהוּא֒ (in that), הִנֵּה־ (Behold), כֹ֣ה (this was) מַבָּטֵ֗נוּ (our hope), אֲשֶׁר־ (where) נַ֤סְנוּ (we would flee) שָׁם֙ (there) לְעֶזְרָ֔ה (for help) לְהִ֨נָּצֵ֔ל (to be delivered) מִפְּנֵ֖י (from) מֶ֣לֶךְ (the king) אַשּׁ֑וּר (of Assyria); וְאֵ֖יךְ (and how) נִמָּלֵ֥ט (escape) אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃ס (can we)?
