The Burden against Egypt

1  מַשָּׂ֖א (The burden) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt):

הִנֵּ֨ה (Behold), יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) רֹכֵ֨ב (is riding) עַל־ (on) עָ֥ב (a cloud) קַל֙ (swift),

וּבָ֣א (and He is coming) מִצְרַ֔יִם (into Egypt).

וְנָע֞וּ (And will quiver) אֱלִילֵ֤י (the idols) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Egypt) מִפָּנָ֔יו (before His face),

וּלְבַ֥ב (and the heart) מִצְרַ֖יִם (of Egypt) יִמַּ֥ס (will melt) בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃ (within them).

2  וְסִכְסַכְתִּ֤י (And I will set) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (Egyptian) בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם (against Egyptian),

וְנִלְחֲמ֥וּ (and will be fighting) אִישׁ־ (a man) בְּאָחִ֖יו (against his brother) וְאִ֣ישׁ (and a man) בְּרֵעֵ֑הוּ (against his neighbor)—

עִ֣יר (city) בְּעִ֔יר (against city), מַמְלָכָ֖ה (kingdom) בְּמַמְלָכָֽה׃ (against kingdom).

3  וְנָבְקָ֤ה (And will be emptied out) רֽוּחַ־ (the spirit) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Egypt) בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ (from among them)

וַעֲצָת֖וֹ (and its counsel) אֲבַלֵּ֑עַ (I will swallow up)

וְדָרְשׁ֤וּ (and they will resort) אֶל־ (to) הָֽאֱלִילִים֙ (the idols), וְאֶל־ (and to) הָ֣אִטִּ֔ים (the charmers),

וְאֶל־ (and to) הָאֹב֖וֹת (the mediums), וְאֶל־ (and to) הַיִּדְּעֹנִֽים׃ (the spiritists).

4  וְסִכַּרְתִּי֙ (And I will shut up) אֶת־ (-) מִצְרַ֔יִם (Egypt) בְּיַ֖ד (in the hand) אֲדֹנִ֣ים (of masters) קָשֶׁ֑ה (of harsh),

וּמֶ֤לֶךְ (and a king) עַז֙ (fierce) יִמְשָׁל־ (will rule) בָּ֔ם (over them),

נְאֻ֥ם (a declaration) הָאָד֖וֹן (of the Lord) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) צְבָאֽוֹת׃ (of Hosts).

5  וְנִשְּׁתוּ־ (And will dry up) מַ֖יִם (the waters) מֵֽהַיָּ֑ם (of the Sea),

וְנָהָ֖ר (and the River) יֶחֱרַ֥ב (will become parched) וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃ (and dried up).

6  וְהֶאֶזְנִ֣יחוּ (And will become foul) נְהָר֔וֹת (the rivers); דָּלֲל֥וּ (will trickle)

וְחָרְב֖וּ (and dried out) יְאֹרֵ֣י (the brooks) מָצ֑וֹר (of Egypt);

קָנֶ֥ה (the reeds) וָס֖וּף (and rushes) קָמֵֽלוּ׃ (will wither).

7  עָר֥וֹת (The rushes) עַל־ (by) יְא֖וֹר (the River),

עַל־ (upon) פִּ֣י (the mouth) יְא֑וֹר (of the River),

וְכֹל֙ (and every) מִזְרַ֣ע (sown field) יְא֔וֹר (of the River), יִיבַ֥שׁ (will wither);

נִדַּ֖ף (it will be driven away) וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ (and be no more).

8  וְאָנוּ֙ (And will mourn) הַדַּיָּגִ֔ים (the fishermen),

וְאָ֣בְל֔וּ (and will lament) כָּל־ (all) מַשְׁלִיכֵ֥י (those casting) בַיְא֖וֹר (into the River) חַכָּ֑ה (a hook),

וּפֹרְשֵׂ֥י (and those spreading) מִכְמֹ֛רֶת (nets) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵי־ (the face) מַ֖יִם (of the waters), אֻמְלָֽלוּ׃ (they will languish).

9  וּבֹ֛שׁוּ (And will be put to shame) עֹבְדֵ֥י (those working) פִשְׁתִּ֖ים (flax) שְׂרִיק֑וֹת (fine)

וְאֹרְגִ֖ים (and those weaving) חוֹרָֽי׃ (white cloth),

10  וְהָי֥וּ (have been) שָׁתֹתֶ֖יהָ (and her weavers) מְדֻכָּאִ֑ים (crushed);

כָּל־ (and all) עֹ֥שֵׂי (workers) שֶׂ֖כֶר (the hired) אַגְמֵי־ (are stagnant) נָֽפֶשׁ׃ (of soul).

11  אַךְ־ (Indeed) אֱוִלִים֙ (are fools) שָׂ֣רֵי (the princes) צֹ֔עַן (of Zoan);

חַכְמֵי֙ (of the wise) יֹעֲצֵ֣י (counselors) פַרְעֹ֔ה (of Pharaoh) עֵצָ֖ה (the counsel) נִבְעָרָ֑ה (has become dull).

אֵ֚יךְ (How) תֹּאמְר֣וּ (can you⁺ say) אֶל־ (to) פַּרְעֹ֔ה (Pharaoh),

בֶּן־ (A son) חֲכָמִ֥ים (of wise men) אֲנִ֖י (I am),

בֶּן־ (a son) מַלְכֵי־ (of kings from) קֶֽדֶם׃ (times before)?

12  אַיָּם֙ (Where) אֵפ֣וֹא (then) חֲכָמֶ֔יךָ (are your wise ones)?

וְיַגִּ֥ידוּ (And let them declare it) נָ֖א (now) לָ֑ךְ (to you),

וְיֵ֣דְע֔וּ (and make known) מַה־ (what) יָּעַ֛ץ (has counseled) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) עַל־ (for) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (Egypt).

13  נֽוֹאֲלוּ֙ (Have become fools) שָׂ֣רֵי (the princes) צֹ֔עַן (of Zoan);

נִשְּׁא֖וּ (are deceived) שָׂ֣רֵי (the princes) נֹ֑ף (of Noph);

הִתְע֥וּ (they have led astray) אֶת־ (-)

מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt), פִּנַּ֥ת (the cornerstone) שְׁבָטֶֽיהָ׃ (of her tribes).

14  יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) מָסַ֥ךְ (has mixed) בְּקִרְבָּ֖הּ (into her midst),

ר֣וּחַ (a spirit) עִוְעִ֑ים (of distortions),

וְהִתְע֤וּ (and they have led astray) אֶת־ (-) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (Egypt) בְּכָֽל־ (in all) מַעֲשֵׂ֔הוּ (her work),

כְּהִתָּע֥וֹת (like the staggering) שִׁכּ֖וֹר (of a drunkard) בְּקִיאֽוֹ׃ (in his vomit).

15  וְלֹֽא־ (Not be) יִהְיֶ֥ה (and there will) לְמִצְרַ֖יִם (for Egypt) מַֽעֲשֶׂ֑ה (work) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) יַעֲשֶׂ֛ה (one could do)—

רֹ֥אשׁ (head) וְזָנָ֖ב (or tail), כִּפָּ֥ה (palm branch) וְאַגְמֽוֹן׃ס (or reed).

A Blessing upon the Earth

16  בַּיּ֣וֹם (In day) הַה֔וּא (that) יִֽהְיֶ֥ה (will become) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) כַּנָּשִׁ֑ים (like women), וְחָרַ֣ד׀ (and it will tremble) וּפָחַ֗ד (and feel dread) מִפְּנֵי֙ (from the face) תְּנוּפַת֙ (of the waving) יַד־ (of the hand) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) ה֖וּא (He) מֵנִ֥יף (is waving) עָלָֽיו׃ (over it). 17  וְ֠הָיְתָה (And will be) אַדְמַ֨ת (the land) יְהוּדָ֤ה (of Judah) לְמִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (to Egypt) לְחָגָּ֔א (as a terror); כֹּל֩ (everyone) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יַזְכִּ֥יר (makes mention) אֹתָ֛הּ (of it) אֵלָ֖יו (in himself) יִפְחָ֑ד (will tremble), מִפְּנֵ֗י (from the face) עֲצַת֙ (of the counsel) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) ה֖וּא (He) יוֹעֵ֥ץ (is counseling) עָלָֽיו׃ס (against Egypt).

18  בַּיּ֣וֹם (Day) הַה֡וּא (In that) יִהְיוּ֩ (there will be) חָמֵ֨שׁ (five) עָרִ֜ים (cities) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרַ֗יִם (of Egypt) מְדַבְּרוֹת֙ (speaking) שְׂפַ֣ת (the language) כְּנַ֔עַן (of Canaan) וְנִשְׁבָּע֖וֹת (and swearing oaths) לַיהוָ֣ה (by YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (Hosts). עִ֣יר (City) הַהֶ֔רֶס (of Destruction)” יֵאָמֵ֖ר (it will be said) לְאֶחָֽת׃ס (of one).

19  בַּיּ֣וֹם (Day) הַה֗וּא (In that) יִֽהְיֶ֤ה (there will be) מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (an altar) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH) בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) אֶ֣רֶץ (of the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt), וּמַצֵּבָ֥ה (and a pillar) אֵֽצֶל־ (at) גְּבוּלָ֖הּ (its border) לַֽיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH). 20  וְהָיָ֨ה (And it will be) לְא֥וֹת (as a sign) וּלְעֵ֛ד (and as a witness) לַֽיהוָ֥ה (to YHWH) צְבָא֖וֹת (of Hosts) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt); כִּֽי־ (for) יִצְעֲק֤וּ (they will cry) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) מִפְּנֵ֣י (from the face) לֹֽחֲצִ֔ים (of the oppressors), וְיִשְׁלַ֥ח (and He will send) לָהֶ֛ם (to them) מוֹשִׁ֥יעַ (one saving), וָרָ֖ב (and defending), וְהִצִּילָֽם׃ (and He will deliver them). 21  וְנוֹדַ֤ע (And will make Himself known) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) לְמִצְרַ֔יִם (to Egypt), וְיָדְע֥וּ (and will acknowledge) מִצְרַ֛יִם (Egypt) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בַּיּ֣וֹם (day) הַה֑וּא (on that), וְעָֽבְדוּ֙ (and they will prepare) זֶ֣בַח (sacrifice) וּמִנְחָ֔ה (and offering), וְנָדְרוּ־ (and they will vow) נֵ֥דֶר (a vow) לַֽיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH) וְשִׁלֵּֽמוּ׃ (and fulfill it).

22  וְנָגַ֧ף (And will strike) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt), נָגֹ֣ף (striking) וְרָפ֑וֹא (and healing), וְשָׁ֙בוּ֙ (and they will turn back) עַד־ (to) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), וְנֶעְתַּ֥ר (and He will be entreated) לָהֶ֖ם (by them) וּרְפָאָֽם׃ (and He will heal them).

23  בַּיּ֣וֹם (In the day) הַה֗וּא (that) תִּהְיֶ֨ה (there will be) מְסִלָּ֤ה (a highway) מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ (from Egypt) אַשּׁ֔וּרָה (to Assyria), וּבָֽא־ (and will come) אַשּׁ֥וּר (Assyria) בְּמִצְרַ֖יִם (into Egypt) וּמִצְרַ֣יִם (and Egypt) בְּאַשּׁ֑וּר (into Assyria), וְעָבְד֥וּ (and will serve Him) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) אֶת־ (with) אַשּֽׁוּר׃ס (Assyria).

24  בַּיּ֣וֹם (In the day) הַה֗וּא (that) יִהְיֶ֤ה (will be) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (Israel) שְׁלִ֣ישִׁיָּ֔ה (the third) לְמִצְרַ֖יִם (with Egypt) וּלְאַשּׁ֑וּר (and with Assyria)— בְּרָכָ֖ה (a blessing) בְּקֶ֥רֶב (in the midst) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth), 25  אֲשֶׁ֧ר (when) בֵּרֲכ֛וֹ (will bless him) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), בָּר֨וּךְ (Blessed be) עַמִּ֜י (My people) מִצְרַ֗יִם (Egypt), וּמַעֲשֵׂ֤ה (and the work) יָדַי֙ (of My hands) אַשּׁ֔וּר (Assyria), וְנַחֲלָתִ֖י (and My inheritance) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס (Israel).
