Ephraim’s Inheritance

1  וַיֵּצֵ֨א (And went out) הַגּוֹרָ֜ל (the lot) לִבְנֵ֤י (for the sons) יוֹסֵף֙ (of Joseph) מִיַּרְדֵּ֣ן (from the Jordan) יְרִיח֔וֹ (by Jericho) לְמֵ֥י (to the waters) יְרִיח֖וֹ (of Jericho) מִזְרָ֑חָה (on the east), הַמִּדְבָּ֗ר (to the wilderness) עֹלֶ֧ה (that goes up) מִירִיח֛וֹ (from Jericho) בָּהָ֖ר (in the hill country) בֵּֽית־ (of Beth-) אֵֽל׃ (el), 2  וְיָצָ֥א (and it went out) מִבֵּֽית־ (from Beth-) אֵ֖ל (el) ל֑וּזָה (to Luz), וְעָבַ֛ר (and passed over) אֶל־ (to) גְּב֥וּל (the border) הָאַרְכִּ֖י (of the Archite) עֲטָרֽוֹת׃ (at Ataroth), 3  וְיָֽרַד־ (and went down) יָ֜מָּה (westward) אֶל־ (to) גְּב֣וּל (the border) הַיַּפְלֵטִ֗י (of the Japhletite), עַ֣ד (as far as) גְּב֧וּל (the boundary) בֵּית־ (of Beth-) חוֹרֹ֛ן (Horon) תַּחְתּ֖וֹן (Lower), וְעַד־ (and to) גָּ֑זֶר (Gezer), וְהָי֥וּ (and) תֹצְאֹתוֹ (it ended) יָֽמָּה׃ (at the sea).

4  וַיִּנְחֲל֥וּ (And took their inheritance) בְנֵי־ (the sons) יוֹסֵ֖ף (of Joseph), מְנַשֶּׁ֥ה (Manasseh) וְאֶפְרָֽיִם׃ (and Ephraim). 5  וַיְהִ֛י (And this was) גְּב֥וּל (the border) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) אֶפְרַ֖יִם (of Ephraim) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם (by their clans):

וַיְהִ֞י (And was) גְּב֤וּל (the border) נַחֲלָתָם֙ (of their inheritance) מִזְרָ֔חָה (on the east side) עַטְר֣וֹת (Ataroth-) אַדָּ֔ר (Addar) עַד־ (as far as) בֵּ֥ית (Beth-) חוֹרֹ֖ן (horon) עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ (Upper), 6  וְיָצָ֨א (and it went out toward) הַגְּב֜וּל (the border) הַיָּ֗מָּה (at the sea). הַֽמִּכְמְתָת֙ (From Michmethath) מִצָּפ֔וֹן (on the north side) וְנָסַ֧ב (and it went around) הַגְּב֛וּל (the border) מִזְרָ֖חָה (eastward) תַּאֲנַ֣ת (toward Taanath-) שִׁלֹ֑ה (shiloh) וְעָבַ֣ר (and passed over) אוֹת֔וֹ (it) מִמִּזְרַ֖ח (on the east) יָנֽוֹחָה׃ (of Janoah). 7  וְיָרַ֥ד (And it went down) מִיָּנ֖וֹחָה (from Janoah) עֲטָר֣וֹת (to Ataroth) וְנַעֲרָ֑תָה (and Naarah), וּפָגַע֙ (and reached) בִּֽירִיח֔וֹ (to Jericho), וְיָצָ֖א (and came out) הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ (at the Jordan). 8  מִתַּפּ֜וּחַ (From Tappuah) יֵלֵ֨ךְ (went out) הַגְּב֥וּל (the border) יָ֙מָּה֙ (westward) נַ֣חַל (to the Brook) קָנָ֔ה (of Kanah), וְהָי֥וּ (and) תֹצְאֹתָ֖יו (it ended) הַיָּ֑מָּה (at the sea).

זֹ֗את (This was) נַחֲלַ֛ת (the inheritance) מַטֵּ֥ה (of the tribe) בְנֵי־ (of the sons) אֶפְרַ֖יִם (of Ephraim) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (by their clans). 9  וְהֶעָרִ֗ים (And the cities were) הַמִּבְדָּלוֹת֙ (separate) לִבְנֵ֣י (for the sons) אֶפְרַ֔יִם (of Ephraim) בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) נַחֲלַ֣ת (of the inheritance) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh), כָּֽל־ (all) הֶעָרִ֖ים (the cities) וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן׃ (and their villages). 10  וְלֹ֣א (And not) הוֹרִ֔ישׁוּ (they did drive out) אֶת־ (-) הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖י (the Canaanite) הַיּוֹשֵׁ֣ב (dwelling) בְּגָ֑זֶר (in Gezer), וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב (and dwelt) הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֜י (the Canaanite) בְּקֶ֤רֶב (in the midst) אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Ephraim) עַד־ (to) הַיּ֣וֹם (day) הַזֶּ֔ה (this), וַיְהִ֖י (and he came to be) לְמַס־ (for forced labor) עֹבֵֽד׃פ (serving).
