Psalms 1–41

The Two Paths
(Matthew 5:3–12; Luke 6:20–23)

אַ֥שְֽׁרֵי־ (Blessed is) הָאִ֗ישׁ (the man)

אֲשֶׁ֤ר׀ (who) לֹ֥א (not) הָלַךְ֮ (does walk) בַּעֲצַ֪ת (in the counsel) רְשָׁ֫עִ֥ים (of the wicked),

וּבְדֶ֣רֶךְ (and in the path) חַ֭טָּאִים (of sinners) לֹ֥א (not) עָמָ֑ד (does stand),

וּבְמוֹשַׁ֥ב (and in the seat) לֵ֝צִ֗ים (of those mocking) לֹ֣א (not) יָשָֽׁב׃ (does sit).

2  כִּ֤י (But) אִ֥ם (rather) בְּתוֹרַ֥ת (in the law) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH) חֶ֫פְצ֥וֹ (is his delight),

וּֽבְתוֹרָת֥וֹ (and in His law) יֶהְגֶּ֗ה (he meditates) יוֹמָ֥ם (day) וָלָֽיְלָה׃ (and night).

3  וְֽהָיָ֗ה (And he is) כְּעֵץ֮ (like a tree) שָׁת֪וּל (planted) עַֽל־ (by) פַּלְגֵ֫י (streams) מָ֥יִם (of water),

אֲשֶׁ֤ר (which) פִּרְי֨וֹ׀ (its fruit) יִתֵּ֬ן (gives) בְּעִתּ֗וֹ (in its time),

וְעָלֵ֥הוּ (and its leaf) לֹֽא־ (not) יִבּ֑וֹל (shall wither),

וְכֹ֖ל (and all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה (he does) יַצְלִֽיחַ׃ (he makes prosper).

4  לֹא־ (Not) כֵ֥ן (so) הָרְשָׁעִ֑ים (the wicked)!

כִּ֥י (But) אִם־ (rather) כַּ֝מֹּ֗ץ (they are like the chaff), אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־ (which) תִּדְּפֶ֥נּוּ (drives away) רֽוּחַ׃ (the wind).

5  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֤ן׀ (thus) לֹא־ (not) יָקֻ֣מוּ (shall stand) רְ֭שָׁעִים (the wicked) בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֑ט (in the judgment),

וְ֝חַטָּאִ֗ים (and not the sinful ones) בַּעֲדַ֥ת (in the assembly) צַדִּיקִֽים׃ (of the righteous).

6  כִּֽי־ (For) יוֹדֵ֣עַ (knows) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (the way) צַדִּיקִ֑ים (of the righteous),

וְדֶ֖רֶךְ (and the way) רְשָׁעִ֣ים (of the wicked) תֹּאבֵֽד׃ (shall perish).
