Job Submits Himself to Yahweh

1  וַיַּ֖עַן (And answered) אִיּ֥וֹב (Job) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ (and said):

2  יָדַעְתָּ (I know) כִּי־ (that) כֹ֣ל (all things) תּוּכָ֑ל (You are able to do),

וְלֹא־ (and not) יִבָּצֵ֖ר (can be thwarted) מִמְּךָ֣ (from You) מְזִמָּֽה׃ (a plan):

3  מִ֤י (Who) זֶ֨ה׀ (is this)

מַעְלִ֥ים (concealing) עֵצָ֗ה (counsel) בְּֽלִ֫י (without) דָ֥עַת (knowledge)?

לָכֵ֣ן (So) הִ֭גַּדְתִּי (I have declared) וְלֹ֣א (and not) אָבִ֑ין (did I understand)—

נִפְלָא֥וֹת (things too wonderful) מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי (for me), וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֵדָֽע׃ (I did know):

4  שְֽׁמַֽע־ (Listen) נָ֭א (now), וְאָנֹכִ֣י (and I) אֲדַבֵּ֑ר (will speak).

אֶ֝שְׁאָלְךָ֗ (I will question you), וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ (and you shall inform Me).

5  לְשֵֽׁמַע־ (By the hearing) אֹ֥זֶן (of the ear) שְׁמַעְתִּ֑יךָ (I had heard of You),

וְ֝עַתָּ֗ה (and now) עֵינִ֥י (my eye) רָאָֽתְךָ׃ (has seen You).

6  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֭ן (thus) אֶמְאַ֣ס (I despise it),

וְנִחַ֑מְתִּי (and I repent) עַל־ (in) עָפָ֥ר (dust) וָאֵֽפֶר׃פ (and ashes).

Yahweh Rebukes Job’s Friends

7  וַיְהִ֗י (And it came to pass) אַחַ֨ר (after) דִּבֶּ֧ר (had spoken) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) הַדְּבָרִ֥ים (the words) הָאֵ֖לֶּה (these) אֶל־ (to) אִיּ֑וֹב (Job), וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (that said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) אֱלִיפַ֣ז (Eliphaz) הַתֵּֽימָנִ֗י (the Temanite), חָרָ֨ה (Is kindled) אַפִּ֤י (My anger) בְךָ֙ (against you) וּבִשְׁנֵ֣י (and against the two) רֵעֶ֔יךָ (friends of yours), כִּ֠י (for) לֹ֣א (not) דִבַּרְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ spoken) אֵלַ֛י (of Me) נְכוֹנָ֖ה (accurately), כְּעַבְדִּ֥י (as My servant) אִיּֽוֹב׃ (Job has). 8  וְעַתָּ֡ה (And now) קְחֽוּ־ (take) לָכֶ֣ם (for yourselves) שִׁבְעָֽה־ (seven) פָרִים֩ (bulls) וְשִׁבְעָ֨ה (and seven) אֵילִ֜ים (rams), וּלְכ֣וּ׀ (and go) אֶל־ (to) עַבְדִּ֣י (My servant) אִיּ֗וֹב (Job), וְהַעֲלִיתֶ֤ם (and offer up) עוֹלָה֙ (a burnt offering) בַּֽעַדְכֶ֔ם (for yourselves). וְאִיּ֣וֹב (And Job) עַבְדִּ֔י (My servant) יִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל (shall pray) עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם (for you⁺) כִּ֧י (for) אִם־ (surely) פָּנָ֣יו (his face) אֶשָּׂ֗א (I will lift)), לְבִלְתִּ֞י (so as not) עֲשׂ֤וֹת (to deal) עִמָּכֶם֙ (with your⁺) נְבָלָ֔ה (folly), כִּ֠י (because) לֹ֣א (not) דִבַּרְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ spoken) אֵלַ֛י (of Me) נְכוֹנָ֖ה (accurately), כְּעַבְדִּ֥י (as My servant) אִיּֽוֹב׃ (Job has).

9  וַיֵּלְכוּ֩ (And went) אֱלִיפַ֨ז (Eliphaz) הַתֵּֽימָנִ֜י (the Temanite) וּבִלְדַּ֣ד (and Bildad) הַשּׁוּחִ֗י (the Shuhite) צֹפַר֙ (and Zophar) הַנַּ֣עֲמָתִ֔י (the Naamathite), וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ (and they did) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (according to what) דִּבֶּ֥ר (had spoken) אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (to them) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וַיִּשָּׂ֥א (and lifted up) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) אִיּֽוֹב׃ (of Job).

Yahweh Blesses Job

10  וַֽיהוָ֗ה (And YHWH) שָׁ֚ב (turned back) אֶת־ (-) שְׁבִית (the captivity) אִיּ֔וֹב (of Job) בְּהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֖וֹ (in his praying) בְּעַ֣ד (for) רֵעֵ֑הוּ (his friends), וַ֧יֹּסֶף (and added) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (to all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that was) לְאִיּ֖וֹב (unto Job) לְמִשְׁנֶֽה׃ (to double). 11  וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ (And came) אֵ֠לָיו (to him) כָּל־ (all) אֶחָ֨יו (his brothers) וְכָל־ (and all) אַחְיֹתָיו (his sisters) וְכָל־ (and all) יֹדְעָ֣יו (of those knowing him) לְפָנִ֗ים (the faces), וַיֹּאכְל֨וּ (and they ate) עִמּ֣וֹ (with him) לֶחֶם֮ (bread) בְּבֵיתוֹ֒ (in his house), וַיָּנֻ֤דוּ (and they nodded) לוֹ֙ (to him) וַיְנַחֲמ֣וּ (and comforted) אֹת֔וֹ (him) עַ֚ל (over) כָּל־ (all) הָ֣רָעָ֔ה (the adversity) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) הֵבִ֥יא (had brought) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) עָלָ֑יו (upon him). וַיִּתְּנוּ־ (And gave) ל֗וֹ (to him) אִ֚ישׁ (each man) קְשִׂיטָ֣ה (a kesitah) אֶחָ֔ת (one), וְאִ֕ישׁ (and each man) נֶ֥זֶם (a ring) זָהָ֖ב (of gold) אֶחָֽד׃ס (one).

12  וַֽיהוָ֗ה (And YHWH) בֵּרַ֛ךְ (blessed) אֶת־ (-) אַחֲרִ֥ית (the latter) אִיּ֖וֹב (of Job) מֵרֵאשִׁת֑וֹ (more than his first), וַֽיְהִי־ (and there were) ל֡וֹ (unto him) אַרְבָּעָה֩ (four) עָשָׂ֨ר (and ten) אֶ֜לֶף (thousand) צֹ֗אן (sheep), וְשֵׁ֤שֶׁת (and six) אֲלָפִים֙ (thousand) גְּמַלִּ֔ים (camels), וְאֶֽלֶף־ (and a thousand) צֶ֥מֶד (yoke) בָּקָ֖ר (of oxen), וְאֶ֥לֶף (and a thousand) אֲתוֹנֽוֹת׃ (female donkeys). 13  וַֽיְהִי־ (And there were) ל֛וֹ (unto him) שִׁבְעָ֥נָה (seven) בָנִ֖ים (sons) וְשָׁל֥וֹשׁ (and three) בָּנֽוֹת׃ (daughters). 14  וַיִּקְרָ֤א (And he called) שֵׁם־ (the name) הָֽאַחַת֙ (of the first) יְמִימָ֔ה (Jemimah), וְשֵׁ֥ם (and the name) הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית (of the second) קְצִיעָ֑ה (Keziah), וְשֵׁ֥ם (and the name) הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֖ית (of the third) קֶ֥רֶן (Keren-) הַפּֽוּךְ׃ (happuch). 15  וְלֹ֨א (And not) נִמְצָ֜א (were found) נָשִׁ֥ים (women) יָפ֛וֹת (beautiful) כִּבְנ֥וֹת (as the daughters) אִיּ֖וֹב (of Job) בְּכָל־ (in all) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the land), וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (and gave) לָהֶ֧ם (to them) אֲבִיהֶ֛ם (their father) נַחֲלָ֖ה (an inheritance) בְּת֥וֹךְ (in the midst) אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ס (of their brothers).

16  וַיְחִ֤י (And lived) אִיּוֹב֙ (Job) אַֽחֲרֵי־ (after) זֹ֔את (this) מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים (and forty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years), וַיַּרְא (and he saw) אֶת־ (-) בָּנָיו֙ (his sons) וְאֶת־ (and) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) בָנָ֔יו (of his sons), אַרְבָּעָ֖ה (four) דֹּרֽוֹת׃ (generations). 17  וַיָּ֣מָת (And died) אִיּ֔וֹב (Job) זָקֵ֖ן (old) וּשְׂבַ֥ע (and full) יָמִֽים׃ (of days).
