In My Distress I Cried to Yahweh

שִׁ֗יר (A Song) הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת (of the Ascents).

1אֶל־ (To) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) בַּצָּרָ֣תָה (in the distress) לִּ֑י (for me) קָ֝רָ֗אתִי (I cried out),

וַֽיַּעֲנֵֽנִי׃ (and He answered me).

2  יְֽהוָ֗ה (O YHWH), הַצִּ֣ילָה (deliver) נַ֭פְשִׁי (my soul) מִשְּׂפַת־ (from a lip) שֶׁ֑קֶר (of falsehood),

מִלָּשׁ֥וֹן (from a tongue) רְמִיָּֽה׃ (of deceit).

3  מַה־ (What) יִּתֵּ֣ן (will He give) לְ֭ךָ (to you)

וּמַה־ (or what) יֹּסִ֥יף (will He add) לָ֗ךְ (to you),

לָשׁ֥וֹן (O tongue) רְמִיָּֽה׃ (of deceit)?

4  חִצֵּ֣י (The arrows) גִבּ֣וֹר (of a mighty one) שְׁנוּנִ֑ים (sharpened),

עִ֝֗ם (with) גַּחֲלֵ֥י (the burning coals) רְתָמִֽים׃ (of broom trees).

5  אֽוֹיָה־ (Woe) לִ֭י (to me) כִּי־ (for) גַ֣רְתִּי (I have sojourned in) מֶ֑שֶׁךְ (Mesech)—

שָׁ֝כַ֗נְתִּי (I have dwelt) עִֽם־ (among) אָהֳלֵ֥י (the tents) קֵדָֽר׃ (of Kedar)!

6  רַ֭בַּת (Too much) שָֽׁכְנָה־ (has dwelt) לָּ֣הּ (in it) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul)

עִ֝֗ם (with) שׂוֹנֵ֥א (the one hating) שָׁלֽוֹם׃ (peace).

7  אֲ‍ֽנִי־ (I) שָׁ֭לוֹם (am peace),

וְכִ֣י (and when) אֲדַבֵּ֑ר (I speak), הֵ֝֗מָּה (they are) לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ (for war)!
