Twenty-Four Divisions of Priests

1And the sons of Aaron—these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron: Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 2And Nadab and Abihu died before the face of their father, and there were unto them no children, and Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.

3And David divided them, and Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their office in their service. 4And there were found of the sons of Eleazar more for heads of the mighty men than of the sons of Ithamar, and they were divided. Among the sons of Eleazar, heads for a house of fathers, sixteen. And among the sons of Ithamar, for a house of their fathers, eight.

5And they were divided by lot, these with these; for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar.

6And Shemaiah son of Nethanel the scribe of the Levites wrote them down before the face of the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of fathers of the priests and the Levites—one house of a father taken for Eleazar, and one being taken possession of for Ithamar.

7And the first lot fell to Jehoiarib,

to Jedaiah the second,

8to Harim the third,

to Seorim the fourth,

9to Malchijah the fifth,

to Mijamin the sixth,

10to Koz the seventh,

to Abijah the eighth,

11to Jeshua the ninth,

to Shecaniah the tenth,

12to Eliashib the eleventh,

to Jakim the twelfth,

13to Huppah the thirteenth,

to Jeshebeab the fourteenth,

14to Bilgah the fifteenth,

to Immer the sixteenth,

15to Hezir the seventeenth,

to Happizzez the eighteenth,

16to Pethahiah the nineteenth,

to Ezekiel the twentieth,

17to Jachin the one and twentieth,

to Gamul the two and twentieth,

18to Delaiah the three and twentieth,

to Maaziah the four and twentieth.

19These were their appointments for their service for coming into the house of YHWH, according to their ordinance by the hand of Aaron their father, as YHWH, God of Israel, had commanded him.

The Rest of the Levites

20And those remaining of the sons of Levi:

Of the sons of Amram: Shubael;†

of the sons of Shubael: Jehdeiah.

21To Rehabiah, of the sons of Rehabiah: The first was Isshiah.†

22Of the Izharite: Shelomoth;†

of the sons of Shelomoth: Jahath.

23And of the sons of Hebron Jeriah was the first:† Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

24The sons of Uzziel: Micah;

of the sons of Micah: Shamir.

25The brother of Micah: Isshiah;

of the sons of Isshiah: Zechariah.

26The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi;

the sons of Jaaziah: Beno.

27The sons of Merari by Jaaziah: Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri.

28Of Mahli: Eleazar, and were to him no sons.

29Of Kish: The son of Kish: Jerahmeel.

30And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth.†

These were the sons of the Levites according to the house of their fathers. 31And they also cast lots as their brothers, the sons of Aaron, before the face of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers of the priests and Levites—the chief father as his younger brother.
