The People Bring More than Enough 1“ And Bezalel and Oholiab and every man wise of heart in whom YHWH has put wisdom and understanding, to know to do all of the work of the service of the Holy Place, to do according to all that YHWH has commanded.” 2And Moses called to Bezalel and to Oholiab and to to every man wise of heart in whom YHWH had put wisdom in his heart—everyone whose heart lifted him—to come near to the work to do it. 3And they took from before the face of Moses all the contribution that the sons of Israel had brought out to do the work of the service of the Holy Place. And they continued bringing to him a freewill offering morning by morning. 4And all the wise ones who were doing all the work of the Holy Place came, every man, from his work that they were doing, 5and they spoke to Moses, saying, “The people are bringing much more than enough for the service of the work that YHWH has commanded us to do.” 6And Moses commanded, and they caused a voice to pass throughout the camp, saying, “Let not man or woman do anymore work for a contribution of the Holy Place.” And the people were restrained from bringing. 7And the work they had was sufficient for all the work to be done, and there was excess. The Ten Curtains for the Tabernacle 8And everyone wise of heart among those doing the work made the tabernacle; ten curtains of finely woven linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet yarn; cherubim—the work of a designer—he made them. 9The length of the one curtain was eight and twenty by the cubit, and the width of the one curtain was four by the cubit,† one measurement for all the curtains. 10And he joined five curtains one to one, and five curtains he joined one to one. 11And He made loops of blue on the edge of the one, the curtain from the end at the joining; likewise he did on the edge of the outermost curtain at the seam of the second. 12Fifty loops he made in the one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain that is at the seam of the second; that the loops may be clasped one to one. 13And he made fifty clasps of gold and joined the curtains one to one with the clasps, and the tabernacle shall be one. The Eleven Curtains of Goat Hair 14And He made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; one and ten curtains he made them. 15And the length of the one curtain is thirty by the cubit, the width of the one curtain four cubits. One measurement for the one and ten curtains.† 16And he joined the five curtains by themselves, and the six curtains by themselves. 17And he made fifty loops on the outermost edge of the curtain at the joining, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain at the seam of the second. 18And He made fifty clasps of bronze to join together the tent, and it shall be one. 19And he made a covering for the tent of ram skins dyed red, and a covering of badger skins† from above. The Frames and Bases 20And he made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. 21Ten cubits is the length of the board, and a cubit and a half cubit is the width of the one board,† 22with two tenons† in the one board for binding one to one. Thus he did for all the boards of the tabernacle. 23And he made the boards for the tabernacle twenty boards for the south side, southward. 24And forty bases of silver he made under the twenty boards—two bases under the one board for its two tenons, and two bases under the one board for its two tenons. 25And for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty boards 26and their forty bases of silver, two bases under the one board, and two bases under the one board. 27And for the west side of the tabernacle he made six boards, 28and He made two boards for the corners of the tabernacle, for the rear sides. 29And they were coupled from the bottom, and together they were complete at its top by the one ring. Thus he made for the two of them, for the two corners. 30And there were eight boards and their bases of silver, six and ten bases—two bases, two bases under the one board. 31And he made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle, 32and five bars for the boards on the second side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle, for the rear sides westward. 33And he made the middle bar to pass through in the midst of the boards, from the end to the end. 34And he overlaid the boards with gold, and their rings he made of gold as holders for the bars, and he overlaid the bars with gold. The Veil 35And he made a veil of blue, and purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely woven linen, the work of a designer, cherubim he made on it. 36And He made for it four pillars of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold, their hooks of gold. And he cast for them four bases of silver. The Curtain for the Entrance 37And He made a screen for the door of the tent, blue, and purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely woven linen, the work of a weaver, 38and its five pillars and their hooks. And he overlaid their tops and their bands with gold, and their five bases were bronze. Footnotes: 9 Each of the ten curtains was approximately 42 feet long and 6 feet wide (12.8 meters long and 1.8 meters wide). 15 Each of the eleven curtains was approximately 45 feet long and 6 feet wide (13.7 meters long and 1.8 meters wide). 19 Possibly the hides of large aquatic mammals 21 Each board was approximately 15 feet long and 2.25 feet wide (4.6 meters long and 68.6 centimeters wide). 22 That is, projecting pieces of wood made for insertion into another piece; similarly in verse 24.
