Laws for Sin Offerings
(Leviticus 5:1–13; Leviticus 6:24–30)

1And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: When a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of YHWH which ought not to be done, and has done something against one of them—

3if the priest who is anointed sins, bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer for his sin that he has sinned a young son of the herd, unblemished, to YHWH as a sin offering. 4And He shall bring the bull to the door of the Tent of Meeting before the face of YHWH, and lay his hand on the head of the bull, and kill the bull before the face of YHWH. 5And the priest who is anointed shall take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the Tent of Meeting, 6and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the face of YHWH, in front of the veil of the sanctuary. 7And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of the incense of spices before the face of YHWH, which is in the Tent of Meeting. And the remaining blood of the bull he shall pour at the base of the altar of the burnt offering which is at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 8And all the fat of the bull of the sin offering, he shall lift up from it the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, 9and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them that is by the flanks, and the lobe of the liver above the kidneys, which he shall remove, 10as it was taken from the bull of the sacrifice of the peace offerings. And the priest shall burn them on the altar of the burnt offering. 11And the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and its legs and its entrails and its dung— 12he shall carry even the whole bull outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with the fire. It shall be burned where the ashes are poured out.

13Now if the whole congregation of Israel sins unintentionally, and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they have acted against one of the commandments of YHWH which should not be done, and are guilty, 14when the sin that they have committed concerning it becomes known, then the assembly shall offer a bull, a son of the herd, for the sin, and bring it before the face of the Tent of Meeting. 15And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the face of YHWH, and the bull shall be killed before the face of YHWH. 16And the priest who is anointed shall bring some of the blood of the bull to the Tent of Meeting. 17And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the face of YHWH in front of the face of the veil. 18And some of the blood he shall put on the horns of the altar that is before YHWH, which is in the Tent of Meeting, and all the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of the burnt offering that is at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 19And all the fat He shall take from it and burn it on the altar. 20And he shall do with the bull as he did with the bull of the sin offering; thus shall he do with it. And the priest shall make atonement upon them, and it shall be forgiven them. 21And he shall carry the bull to outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull; it is a sin offering for the assembly.

22When a ruler has sinned and acted against one of all the commandments of YHWH his God that should not be done, unintentionally, and is guilty, 23or if his sin in that he has sinned comes to his knowledge, then he shall bring as his offering a kid of the goats, an unblemished male. 24And he shall lay his hand on the head of the goat and kill it at the place where they kill the burnt offering before the face of YHWH; it is a sin offering. 25And the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and pour its blood at the base of the altar of the burnt offering. 26And all its fat he shall burn on the altar, like the fat of the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall make atonement upon him concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven for him.

27And if one soul of the people of the land sins unintentionally by acting against one of the commandments of YHWH that ought not to be done, and he is guilty, 28or if his sin that he has committed comes to his knowledge, then he shall bring as his offering a kid of the goats unblemished, a female, for his sin that he has committed. 29And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and kill the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering. 30And the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and pour out all the blood at the base of the altar. 31And all its fat he shall remove as the fat is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offerings, and the priest shall burn it on the altar for a pleasing aroma to YHWH. And the priest shall make atonement upon him, and it shall be forgiven for him.

32And if he brings a lamb for his offering as a sin offering, he shall bring an unblemished female, 33and he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and kill it as a sin offering at the place where they kill the burnt offering. 34And the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and pour out all its blood at the base of the altar. 35And all its fat he shall remove as the fat of the lamb is removed from the sacrifice of the peace offerings, and the priest shall burn it on the altar, according to the fire offerings to YHWH. And the priest shall make atonement upon him, upon his sin that he has committed, and it shall be forgiven for him.
