Sins Requiring a Sin Offering 1“ And if a soul sins and hears the voice of an oath,† and he is a witness, whether he has seen or he has known, if he does not tell, then he shall bear his iniquity. 2Or if a soul touches any unclean thing, whether the carcass of an unclean beast or the carcass of unclean livestock or the carcass of an unclean swarming thing, and it is hidden from him, then he is unclean and guilty. 3Or if he touches uncleanness of man, according to all his uncleanness by which he becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, and he realizes it, then he shall be guilty. 4Or if a soul swears, to utter with his lips to do evil or to do good, according to all that the man utters by an oath, and it is hidden from him, and he realizes it, then he shall be guilty in one of these. 5And it shall be, when he is guilty in one of these, that he shall confess that he has sinned in it. 6And he shall bring his guilt offering to YHWH for his sin that he has sinned: A female from the flock, a lamb or a female kid of the goats, for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement upon him from his sin. 7And if his hand does not reach to the sufficiency of a lamb, then he shall bring for his guilt offering that he has sinned—two turtledoves or two sons of a pigeon to YHWH, one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering. 8And he shall bring them to the priest, and he shall bring near that which is for the sin offering first, and he shall wring off its head from its neck, and he shall not divide it completely. 9And he shall sprinkle from the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, and the remainder of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering. 10And the second he shall do as a burnt offering, according to the ordinance. And the priest shall make atonement upon him from his sin that he has sinned, and it shall be forgiven for him. 11And if his hand does not reach to two turtledoves or to two sons of a pigeon, then he shall bring near for his offering that he has sinned a tenth of an ephah of fine flour† for a sin offering. He shall not put oil on it, and he shall not put frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take from it the fullness of his handful, its memorial portion, and he shall burn it on the altar, on the fire offerings to YHWH; it is a sin offering. 13And the priest shall make atonement upon him, upon his sin that he has sinned in one of these, and it shall be forgiven for him. And the remainder shall be† for the priest, like the grain offering.” Laws for Guilt Offerings 14And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 15“If a soul acts unfaithfully—an unfaithfulness—and sins in error† from the holy things of YHWH, then he shall bring his guilt offering to YHWH: an unblemished ram of the flock, in your valuation† of silver shekels,† according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering. 16And for that which he has sinned from the holy thing he shall repay, and its fifth he shall add on it, and he shall give it to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement upon him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it shall be forgiven for him. 17And if a soul sins and does one from all the commandments of YHWH which are not to be done, and he has not known, and he is guilty, then he shall bear his iniquity. 18And he shall bring an unblemished ram from the flock, in your valuation, for a guilt offering to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement upon him regarding his error in which he erred and he did not know it, and it shall be forgiven for him. 19It is a guilt offering; he was surely guilty against YHWH.” Footnotes: 1Or curse 11A tenth of an ephah is approximately 2 dry quarts or 2.2 liters (probably about 2.6 pounds or 1.2 kilograms of flour). 13Literally And it shall be 15Or unintentionally 15Or of the flock or its equivalence 15A shekel is approximately 0.4 ounces or 11.4 grams of silver.
