Sins Requiring a Sin Offering
(Leviticus 4:1–35; Leviticus 6:24–30)

1 And if a person sins and has heard the voice of an oath, and he is witness, whether he has seen or known of it, if he does not tell it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

2Or if a person touches any unclean thing, whether the carcass of an unclean beast or the carcass of unclean livestock or the carcass of unclean creeping things, and he is unaware of it, then he is unclean and guilty.

3Or if he touches human uncleanness, whatever uncleanness with which a man may be defiled, and he is unaware of it, and he realizes it, then he shall be guilty.

4Or if a person swears, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, even anything that the man may pronounce by an oath, and he is unaware of it, and he realizes it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

5And it shall be, when he is guilty in one of these, that he shall confess that he has sinned in it. 6And he shall bring his guilt offering to YHWH for his sin that he has committed: A female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, as a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement upon him concerning his sin.

7And if his hand does not reach to the sufficiency of a lamb, then he shall bring his guilt offering—he who has sinned—two turtledoves or two sons of a pigeon to YHWH, one as a sin offering and one as a burnt offering. 8And he shall bring them to the priest, and he shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and wring off its head from its neck, and he shall not divide it completely. 9And he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering. 10And he shall offer the second as a burnt offering, according to the ordinance. And the priest shall make atonement upon him from his sin that he has committed, and it shall be forgiven him.

11But if his hand does not reach to two turtledoves or two sons of a pigeon, then he who has sinned shall bring for his offering a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a sin offering. He shall not put oil on it, nor shall he put frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take of it the fullness of his handful as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar, according to the fire offerings to YHWH; it is a sin offering. 13And the priest shall make atonement upon him, upon his sin that he has committed in one of these, and it shall be forgiven for him. And it shall be unto the priest, like the grain offering.”

Laws for Guilt Offerings
(Leviticus 6:1–7; Leviticus 7:1–10)

14And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 15“If a person commits a trespass and sins unintentionally in regard to the holy things of YHWH, then he shall bring as his guilt offering to YHWH an unblemished ram of the flock, with your valuation in silver shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, as a guilt offering. 16And for that which he has sinned against, the holy thing, he shall make restitution, and he shall add a fifth to it and give it to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement upon him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it shall be forgiven for him.

17And if a person sins and commits one of these things that are not to be done according to the commandments of YHWH, and he does not know it, then still he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity. 18And he shall bring an unblemished ram from the flock, in your valuation, as a guilt offering to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement upon him regarding his ignorance in which he erred and he did not know it, and it shall be forgiven for him. 19It is a guilt offering; he was surely guilty against YHWH.”
