Berean Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
For the choirmaster. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A Miktam of David. Do you indeed speak justly, O rulers? Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men? | 1Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly? |
No, in your hearts you devise injustice; with your hands you mete out violence on the earth. | 2No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth. |
The wicked are estranged from the womb; the liars go astray from birth. | 3The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies. |
Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like a cobra that shuts its ears, | 4They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear, |
refusing to hear the tune of the charmer who skillfully weaves his spell. | 5so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter. |
O God, shatter their teeth in their mouths; O LORD, tear out the fangs of the lions. | 6O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! |
May they vanish like water that runs off; when they draw the bow, may their arrows be blunted. | 7Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. |
Like a slug that dissolves in its slime, like a woman’s stillborn child, may they never see the sun. | 8Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. |
Before your pots can feel the burning thorns—whether green or dry—He will sweep them away. | 9Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away! |
The righteous will rejoice when they see they are avenged; they will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked. | 10The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked. |
Then men will say, “There is surely a reward for the righteous! There is surely a God who judges the earth!” | 11Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.” |
