Psalm 69
BSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Berean Study BibleEnglish Standard Version
For the choirmaster. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters are up to my neck.1Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.
I have sunk into the miry depths, where there is no footing; I have drifted into deep waters, where the flood engulfs me.2I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary from my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.3I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.
Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs of my head; many are those who would destroy me—my enemies for no reason. Though I did not steal, I must repay.4More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?
You know my folly, O God, and my guilt is not hidden from You.5O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
May those who hope in You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of Hosts; may those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel.6Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.
For I have endured scorn for Your sake, and shame has covered my face.7For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother’s sons,8I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons.
because zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult You have fallen on me.9For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
I wept and fasted, but it brought me reproach.10When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.
I made sackcloth my clothing, and I was sport to them.11When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of drunkards.12I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.
But my prayer to You, O LORD, is for a time of favor. In Your abundant loving devotion, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation.13But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
Rescue me from the mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters.14Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.
Do not let the floods engulf me or the depths swallow me up; let not the Pit close its mouth over me.15Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD, for Your loving devotion is good; turn to me in keeping with Your great compassion.16Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
Hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly!17Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.
Draw near to my soul and redeem me; ransom me because of my foes.18Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies!
You know my reproach, my shame and disgrace. All my adversaries are before You.19You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you.
Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found no one.20Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.
They poisoned my food with gall and gave me vinegar to quench my thirst.21They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.
May their table become a snare; may it be a retribution and a trap.22Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.
May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually.
Pour out Your wrath upon them, and let Your burning anger overtake them.24Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them.
May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.25May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents.
For they persecute the one You struck and recount the pain of those You wounded.26For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
Add iniquity to their iniquity; let them not share in Your righteousness.27Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you.
May they be blotted out of the Book of Life and not listed with the righteous.28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
But I am in pain and distress; let Your salvation protect me, O God.29But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise God’s name in song and exalt Him with thanksgiving.30I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
And this will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and hooves.31This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.
The humble will see and rejoice. You who seek God, let your hearts be revived!32When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the LORD listens to the needy and does not despise His captive people.33For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them.34Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it.35For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it;
The descendants of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will settle in it.36the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
