Listen, Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; you who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine | 1Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock. O God, enthroned above the cherubim, display your radiant glory |
on Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Rally your power and come to save us. | 2to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your mighty power. Come to rescue us! |
Restore us, God; make your face shine on us, so that we may be saved. | 3Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
LORD God of Armies, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? | 4O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers? |
You fed them the bread of tears and gave them a full measure of tears to drink. | 5You have fed us with sorrow and made us drink tears by the bucketful. |
You put us at odds with our neighbors; our enemies mock us. | 6You have made us the scorn of neighboring nations. Our enemies treat us as a joke. |
Restore us, God of Armies; make your face shine on us, so that we may be saved. | 7Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
You dug up a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. | 8You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land. |
You cleared a place for it; it took root and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land. |
The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches. | 10Our shade covered the mountains; our branches covered the mighty cedars. |
It sent out sprouts toward the Sea and shoots toward the River. | 11We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea; our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River. |
Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its fruit? | 12But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass by may steal our fruit? |
Boars from the forest tear at it and creatures of the field feed on it. | 13The wild boar from the forest devours it, and the wild animals feed on it. |
Return, God of Armies. Look down from heaven and see; take care of this vine, | 14Come back, we beg you, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Look down from heaven and see our plight. Take care of this grapevine |
the root your right hand planted, the son that you made strong for yourself. | 15that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself. |
It was cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of your countenance. | 16For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies. May they perish at the sight of your frown. |
Let your hand be with the man at your right hand, with the son of man you have made strong for yourself. | 17Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice. |
Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. | 18Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more. |
Restore us, LORD, God of Armies; make your face shine on us, so that we may be saved. | 19Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
