| 1Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, | 1Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding--because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished with sin-- |

| 12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. | 12Dear friends, don't be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you. |
| 13But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. | 13Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed. |
