Psalm 69
HCSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
For the choir director: according to "The Lilies." Davidic. Save me, God, for the water has risen to my neck. 1Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.
I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no footing; I have come into deep waters, and a flood sweeps over me. 2I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary from my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. 3I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.
Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head; my deceitful enemies, who would destroy me, are powerful. Though I did not steal, I must repay. 4More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?
God, You know my foolishness, and my guilty acts are not hidden from You. 5O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
Do not let those who put their hope in You be disgraced because of me, Lord GOD of Hosts; do not let those who seek You be humiliated because of me, God of Israel. 6Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.
For I have endured insults because of You, and shame has covered my face. 7For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother's sons 8I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons.
because zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult You have fallen on me. 9For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
I mourned and fasted, but it brought me insults. 10When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.
I wore sackcloth as my clothing, and I was a joke to them. 11When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
Those who sit at the city gate talk about me, and drunkards make up songs about me. 12I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.
But as for me, LORD, my prayer to You is for a time of favor. In Your abundant, faithful love, God, answer me with Your sure salvation. 13But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
Rescue me from the miry mud; don't let me sink. Let me be rescued from those who hate me and from the deep waters. 14Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.
Don't let the floodwaters sweep over me or the deep swallow me up; don't let the Pit close its mouth over me. 15Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, LORD, for Your faithful love is good; in keeping with Your great compassion, turn to me. 16Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
Don't hide Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly! 17Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.
Draw near to me and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. 18Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies!
You know the insults I endure-- my shame and disgrace. You are aware of all my adversaries. 19You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you.
Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. I waited for sympathy, but there was none; for comforters, but found no one. 20Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.
Instead, they gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. 21They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.
Let their table set before them be a snare, and let it be a trap for their allies. 22Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.
Let their eyes grow too dim to see, and let their loins continually shake. 23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually.
Pour out Your rage on them, and let Your burning anger overtake them. 24Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them.
Make their fortification desolate; may no one live in their tents. 25May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents.
For they persecute the one You struck and talk about the pain of those You wounded. 26For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
Add guilt to their guilt; do not let them share in Your righteousness. 27Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you.
Let them be erased from the book of life and not be recorded with the righteous. 28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
But as for me--poor and in pain-- let Your salvation protect me, God. 29But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise God's name with song and exalt Him with thanksgiving. 30I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
That will please Yahweh more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and hooves. 31This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.
The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek God, take heart! 32When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the LORD listens to the needy and does not despise His own who are prisoners. 33For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them, 34Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
for God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah. They will live there and possess it. 35For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it;
The descendants of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will live in it. 36the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.
