Holman Christian Standard BibleInternational Standard Version
As Jesus left and was going out of the temple complex, His disciples came up and called His attention to the temple buildings. 1As Jesus left the Temple and was walking away, his disciples came up to him to point out to him the Temple buildings.
Then He replied to them, "Don't you see all these things? I assure you: Not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down!" 2But he told them, "You see all these things, don't you? I tell all of you with certainty, there isn't a single stone here that will be left standing on top of another. They will all be torn down."
While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached Him privately and said, "Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?" 3While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will these things take place, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
Then Jesus replied to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 4Jesus answered them, "See to it that no one deceives you,
For many will come in My name, saying, I am the Messiah,' and they will deceive many.5because many will come in my name and say, 'I'm the Messiah,' and they will deceive many people.
You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet. 6You'll hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you aren't alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet,
For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.7because nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
All these events are the beginning of birth pains. 8But all these things are only the beginning of the birth pains."
"Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.9"Then they'll hand you over to suffer and will kill you, and you'll be hated by all the nations because of my name.
Then many will take offense, betray one another and hate one another. 10Then many people will fall away, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 11Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people,
Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. 12and because lawlessness will increase, the love of many people will grow cold.
But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. 13But the person who endures to the end will be saved.
This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations. And then the end will come. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."
"So when you see the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place" (let the reader understand), 15"So when you see the destructive desecration, mentioned by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place (let the reader take note),
"then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! 16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
A man on the housetop must not come down to get things out of his house.17Anyone who's on the housetop must not come down to get what is in his house,
And a man in the field must not go back to get his clothes. 18and anyone who's in the field must not turn back to get his coat.
Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days! 19"How terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days!
Pray that your escape may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 20Pray that it may not be in winter or on a Sabbath when you flee,
For at that time there will be great tribulation, the kind that hasn't taken place from the beginning of the world until now and never will again! 21because at that time there will be great suffering, the kind that hasn't happened from the beginning of the world until now and certainly won't ever happen again.
Unless those days were limited, no one would survive. But those days will be limited because of the elect. 22If those days hadn't been limited, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be limited.
"If anyone tells you then, Look, here is the Messiah!' or, Over here!' do not believe it!23"At that time, if anyone says to you, 'Look! Here's the Messiah!' or 'There he is!', don't believe it,
False messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 24because false messiahs and false prophets will appear and display great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
Take note: I have told you in advance. 25Remember, I've told you this beforehand.
So if they tell you, Look, He's in the wilderness!' don't go out; Look, He's in the inner rooms!' do not believe it.26So if they say to you, 'Look! He's in the wilderness,' don't go out looking for him. And if they say, 'Look! He's in the storeroom,' don't believe it,
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 27because just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Wherever the carcass is, there the vultures will gather. 28Wherever there's a corpse, there the vultures will gather.
"Immediately after the tribulation of those days: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken. 29"Immediately after the troubles of those days, 'The sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken loose.'
"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all 'the tribes of the land will mourn' when they see 'the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven' with power and great glory.
He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other. 31He'll send out his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they'll gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to another."
"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. 32"Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches become tender and it produces leaves, you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near--at the door!33In the same way, when you see all these things, you'll know that the Son of Man is near, right at the door.
I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.34I tell all of you with certainty, this generation won't disappear until these things happen.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. 35Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear."
"Now concerning that day and hour no one knows--neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son--except the Father only.36"No one knows when that day or hour will come —not the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father,
As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 37because just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.
For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.38In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage right up to the day when Noah went into the ark.
They didn't know until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be: 39They were unaware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That's how it will be when the Son of Man comes.
Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left. 40At that time, two people will be in the field. One will be taken, and one will be left behind.
Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left.41Two women will be grinding grain at the mill. One will be taken, and one will be left behind.
Therefore be alert, since you don't know what day your Lord is coming.42"So keep on watching, because you don't know on what day your Lord is coming.
But know this: If the homeowner had known what time the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.43But be sure of this: if the owner of the house had known when during the night the thief would be coming, he would have stayed awake and not allowed his house to be broken into.
This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 44So you, too, must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you are not expecting him."
"Who then is a faithful and sensible slave, whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?45"Who, then, is the faithful and wise servant whom his master has put in charge of his household to give the others their food at the right time?
That slave whose master finds him working when he comes will be rewarded. 46How blessed is that servant whom his master finds doing this when he comes!
I assure you: He will put him in charge of all his possessions. 47I tell all of you with certainty, he will put him in charge of all his property.
But if that wicked slave says in his heart, My master is delayed,'48"But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master has been delayed,'
and starts to beat his fellow slaves, and eats and drinks with drunkards,49and begins to beat his fellow servants and eat and drink with the drunks,
that slave's master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. 50that servant's master will come on a day when he doesn't expect him and at an hour that he doesn't know.
He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51Then his master will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
