First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people, 1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—
for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
who wants all people to be saved and to come to know the truth fully. 4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings—a human, the Messiah Jesus. 5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
He gave himself as a ransom for everyone, the testimony at the proper time. 6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
For this reason I was appointed to be an announcer, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the gentiles. (I am telling you the truth. I am not lying.)7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.
Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative. 8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.
Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, 9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God.10but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman learn with a quiet spirit, and submissively. 11A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.
Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve, 13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.
and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient, 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment. 15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
