1First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people, 1Παρακαλῶ οὖν πρῶτον πάντων ποιεῖσθαι δεήσεις προσευχάς ἐντεύξεις εὐχαριστίας ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων
2for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.2ὑπὲρ βασιλέων καὶ πάντων τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ ὄντων ἵνα ἤρεμον καὶ ἡσύχιον βίον διάγωμεν ἐν πάσῃ εὐσεβείᾳ καὶ σεμνότητι
3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 3τοῦτο καλὸν καὶ ἀπόδεκτον ἐνώπιον τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Θεοῦ
4who wants all people to be saved and to come to know the truth fully. 4ὃς πάντας ἀνθρώπους θέλει σωθῆναι καὶ εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν
5There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings—a human, the Messiah Jesus. 5Εἷς γὰρ Θεός εἷς καὶ μεσίτης Θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώπων ἄνθρωπος Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς
6He gave himself as a ransom for everyone, the testimony at the proper time. 6ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις
7For this reason I was appointed to be an announcer, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the gentiles. (I am telling you the truth. I am not lying.)7εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος ἀλήθειαν λέγω οὐ ψεύδομαι διδάσκαλος ἐθνῶν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ
8Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative. 8Βούλομαι οὖν προσεύχεσθαι τοὺς ἄνδρας ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπαίροντας ὁσίους χεῖρας χωρὶς ὀργῆς καὶ διαλογισμοῦ
9Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, 9Ὡσαύτως ‹καὶ› γυναῖκας ἐν καταστολῇ κοσμίῳ μετὰ αἰδοῦς καὶ σωφροσύνης κοσμεῖν ἑαυτάς μὴ ἐν πλέγμασιν καὶ χρυσίῳ ἢ μαργαρίταις ἢ ἱματισμῷ πολυτελεῖ
10but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God.10ἀλλ’ ὃ πρέπει γυναιξὶν ἐπαγγελλομέναις θεοσέβειαν δι’ ἔργων ἀγαθῶν
11Let a woman learn with a quiet spirit, and submissively. 11Γυνὴ ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ μανθανέτω ἐν πάσῃ ὑποταγῇ
12Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm. 12διδάσκειν δὲ γυναικὶ οὐκ ἐπιτρέπω οὐδὲ αὐθεντεῖν ἀνδρός ἀλλ’ εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ
13For Adam was formed first, then Eve, 13Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη εἶτα Εὕα
14and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient, 14καὶ Ἀδὰμ οὐκ ἠπατήθη ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἐξαπατηθεῖσα ἐν παραβάσει γέγονεν
15even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment. 15σωθήσεται δὲ διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας ἐὰν μείνωσιν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγιασμῷ μετὰ σωφροσύνης
