| 2May Israel rejoice in its Maker, and Zion's descendants in their King! | 2Let Israel celebrate its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. |
| 3May they praise his name with dancing, chanting songs to him with tambourines and lyres. | 3Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and lyre. |
| 4For the LORD is pleased with his people; he beautifies the afflicted with salvation. | 4For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. |
| 5May those he loves be exalted, singing for joy on their couches. | 5Let the faithful celebrate in triumphal glory; let them shout for joy on their beds. |
| 6Let high praises to God be heard in their throats, while they wield two-edged swords in their hands | 6Let the exaltation of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, |
| 7as they bring retribution to nations and punishment to peoples, | 7inflicting vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, |
| 8binding their kings with chains, their officials with iron bands, | 8binding their kings with chains and their dignitaries with iron shackles, |
| 9and executing the judgment written against them. This is honor for all the ones he loves. Hallelujah! | 9carrying out the judgment decreed against them. This honor is for all his faithful people. Hallelujah! |
