From: Paul, a servant of Jesus the Messiah, called to be an apostle and set apart for God's gospel, 1Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 2which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
regarding his Son. He was a descendant of David with respect to his humanity 3concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,
and was declared by the resurrection from the dead to be the powerful Son of God according to the spirit of holiness—Jesus the Messiah, our Lord. 4who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Through him we received grace and a commission as an apostle to bring about faithful obedience among all the gentiles for the sake of his name. 5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake,
You, too, are among those who have been called to belong to Jesus the Messiah. 6among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
To: Everyone in Rome, loved by God and called to be holy. May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be yours!7to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
First of all, I thank my God through Jesus the Messiah for all of you, because the news about your faith is being reported throughout the world. 8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.
For God, whom I serve with my spirit by preaching the gospel about his Son, is my witness how constantly I mention you 9For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,
in my prayers at all times, asking that somehow by God's will I may at last succeed in coming to you. 10always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.
For I am longing to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong, 11For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;
that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.12that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now), so that I might reap a harvest among you, just as I have among the rest of the gentiles. 13I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.
Both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to foolish people, I am a debtor. 14I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
That is why I am so eager to proclaim the gospel to you who live in Rome, too.15So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for the salvation of everyone who believes, of the Jew first and of the Greek as well. 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
For in the gospel God's righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The righteous will live by faith." 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
For God's wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the ungodliness and wickedness of those who in their wickedness suppress the truth. 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God himself has made it plain to them. 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
For since the creation of the world God's invisible attributes—his eternal power and divine nature—have been understood and observed by what he made, so that people are without excuse. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him. Instead, their thoughts turned to worthless things, and their senseless hearts were darkened. 21For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Though claiming to be wise, they became fools 22Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images that looked like mortal human beings, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
For this reason, God delivered them to sexual impurity as they followed the lusts of their hearts and dishonored their bodies with one another. 24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
They exchanged God's truth for a lie and worshipped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason, God delivered them to degrading passions as their females exchanged their natural sexual function for one that is unnatural. 26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
In the same way, their males also abandoned their natural sexual function toward females and burned with lust toward one another. Males committed indecent acts with males, and received within themselves the appropriate penalty for their perversion. 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
Furthermore, because they did not think it worthwhile to keep knowing God fully, God delivered them to degraded minds to perform acts that should not be done. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, quarreling, deceit, and viciousness. They are gossips, 29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
slanderers, God-haters, haughty, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to their parents, 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
foolish, faithless, heartless, and ruthless.31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
Although they know God's just requirement—that those who practice such things deserve to die—they not only do these things but even applaud others who practice them.32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
