1This is the historical record of Adam's generations. When God created mankind, he made them in his own likeness. 1This is the record of the family line of Adam. When God created humankind, he made them in the likeness of God.
2Creating them male and female, he blessed them and called them humans when he created them.2He created them male and female; when they were created, he blessed them and named them "humankind."
3After Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son just like him, that is, according to his own likeness, and named him Seth. 3When Adam had lived 130 years he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and he named him Seth.
4Adam lived another 800 years, fathering other sons and daughters after he had fathered Seth. 4The length of time Adam lived after he became the father of Seth was 800 years; during this time he had other sons and daughters.
5Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then died.5The entire lifetime of Adam was 930 years, and then he died.
6When Seth had lived 105 years, he fathered Enosh. 6When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh.
7After he fathered Enosh, Seth lived 807 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 7Seth lived 807 years after he became the father of Enosh, and he had other sons and daughters.
8Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then died.8The entire lifetime of Seth was 912 years, and then he died.
9When Enosh had lived 90 years, he fathered Kenan. 9When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of Kenan.
10After he fathered Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 10Enosh lived 815 years after he became the father of Kenan, and he had other sons and daughters.
11Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then died.11The entire lifetime of Enosh was 905 years, and then he died.
12When Kenan had lived 70 years, he fathered Mahalalel. 12When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of Mahalalel.
13After he fathered Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 13Kenan lived 840 years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters.
14Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then died.14The entire lifetime of Kenan was 910 years, and then he died.
15When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Jared. 15When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared.
16After he fathered Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 16Mahalalel lived 830 years after he became the father of Jared, and he had other sons and daughters.
17Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then died.17The entire lifetime of Mahalalel was 895 years, and then he died.
18When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch. 18When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch.
19After he fathered Enoch, Jared lived 800 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 19Jared lived 800 years after he became the father of Enoch, and he had other sons and daughters.
20Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then died.20The entire lifetime of Jared was 962 years, and then he died.
21When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. 21When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.
22After he fathered Methuselah, Enoch communed with God for 300 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 22After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God for 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.
23Enoch lived a total of 365 years, 23The entire lifetime of Enoch was 365 years.
24communing with God—and then he was there no longer, because God had taken him.24Enoch walked with God, and then he disappeared because God took him away.
25When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech. 25When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech.
26After he fathered Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 26Methuselah lived 782 years after he became the father of Lamech, and he had other sons and daughters.
27Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then died.27The entire lifetime of Methuselah was 969 years, and then he died.
28When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son, 28When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son.
29whom he named Noah, because he said, "May this one comfort us from our work, from pain that is caused by our manual labor, and from the ground that the LORD has cursed." 29He named him Noah, saying, "This one will bring us comfort from our labor and from the painful toil of our hands because of the ground that the LORD has cursed."
30After he fathered Noah, Lamech lived 595 years, fathering other sons and daughters. 30Lamech lived 595 years after he became the father of Noah, and he had other sons and daughters.
31Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then died.31The entire lifetime of Lamech was 777 years, and then he died.
32After Noah had lived 500 years, he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.32After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
