To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.1For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.2In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.3I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah
Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.4You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.5I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.
I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.6At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered:
Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?7“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again?
Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?8Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time?
Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.10So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”
I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.11I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.12I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds.
Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?13Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God?
Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.14You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples.
Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.15With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.16The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken.
The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.17The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth.
The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.18Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.19Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found.
Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
