| 1To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. | 1For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. |
| 2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. | 2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. |
| 3I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. | 3I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint. |
| 4Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. | 4You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. |
| 5I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. | 5I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; |
| 6I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. | 6I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: |
| 7Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? | 7"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? |
| 8Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore? | 8Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? |
| 9Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" |
| 10And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. | 10Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. |
| 11I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. |
| 12I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. | 12I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds." |
| 13Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? | 13Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? |
| 14Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. | 14You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. |
| 15Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. | 15With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. |
| 16The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. | 16The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. |
| 17The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad. | 17The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. |
| 18The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook. | 18Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. |
| 19Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known. | 19Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. |
| 20Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
