Psalm 31
KJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleEnglish Standard Version
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.1In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.2Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.3For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me;
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.4you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.5Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;7I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul,
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.8and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.9Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.10For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.11Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.12I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.13For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.14But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.15My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.16Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.17O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol.
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.18Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!19Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.20In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.21Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.22I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.23Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.24Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!
