Psalm 31
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.1O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right.
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.2Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.3You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.4Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone.
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.5I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;7I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.8You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.9Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away.
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.10I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.11I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.12I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot.
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.13I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.14But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!”
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.15My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.16Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me.
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.17Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave.
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.18Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!19How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.20You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.21Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack.
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.22In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.23Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.24So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!
