King James BibleInternational Standard Version
And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.1After getting into a boat, Jesus crossed to the other side and came to his own city.
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.2All at once some people brought him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he told the paralyzed man, "Be courageous, son! Your sins are forgiven."
And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.3Then some of the scribes told themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!"
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?4But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking, replied, "Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?
For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?5Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.6But so you will know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…" he told the paralyzed man, "Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!"
And he arose, and departed to his house.7So the man got up and went home.
But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.8When the crowds saw this, they became frightened and glorified God for giving such authority to humans.
And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's desk and told him, "Follow me." So he got up and followed him.
And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.10While he was having dinner at Matthew's home, many tax collectors and sinners arrived and began eating with Jesus and his disciples.
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?11The Pharisees saw this and asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.12When Jesus heard that, he said, "Healthy people don't need a physician, but sick people do.
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.13Go and learn what this means: 'I want mercy and not sacrifice,' because I did not come to call righteous people, but sinners."
Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?14Then John's disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?"
And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.15Jesus asked them, "The wedding guests can't mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast."
No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.16"No one patches an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.17Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill out, and the skins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."
While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.18While Jesus was telling them these things, an official came up and fell down before him. "My daughter has just died," he said. "But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."
And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.19So Jesus got up and followed him, along with his disciples.
And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:20Just then a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel of his garment,
For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.21because she had been saying to herself, "If I just touch his robe, I will get well."
But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.22When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, "Be courageous, daughter! Your faith has made you well." And from that very hour the woman was well.
And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,23When Jesus came to the official's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,
He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.24he said, "Go away! The young lady hasn't died, but is sleeping." But they ridiculed him with laughter.
But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.25When the crowd had been driven outside, he went in, took her by the hand, and the young lady got up.
And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.26The news of this spread throughout that land.
And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.27As Jesus was traveling on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"
And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.28When he had gone into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus asked them, "Do you believe I can do this?" They told him, "Yes, Lord!"
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.29Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith, let it be done for you!"
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.30And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly told them, "See to it that nobody knows about this."
But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.31But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that region.
As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.32As the men were going out, a man who couldn't talk because he was demon-possessed was brought to him.
And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.33As soon as the demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!"
But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.34But the Pharisees kept saying, "He drives out demons by the ruler of demons."
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.35Then Jesus began traveling throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness.
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.36When he saw the crowds, he was deeply moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;37Then he told his disciples, "The harvest is vast, but the workers are few.
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.38So ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest."
