A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. | 1Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain. |
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. | 2Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King. |
God is known in her palaces for a refuge. | 3Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge. |
For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. | 4Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together, |
They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. | 5they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away. |
Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. | 6Trembling seized them there, pains like those of a woman in labor, |
Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. | 7as when an east wind destroyed the ships of Tarshish. |
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah. | 8Just as we have heard, so have we seen; in the city of the LORD of the heavenly armies— even in the city of our God— God will establish her forever. Interlude |
We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. | 9God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple. |
According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. | 10God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. |
Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. | 11Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments. |
Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. | 12March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers. |
Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. | 13Take note of her ramparts; investigate her citadels; that you may speak about them to the next generation. |
For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. | 14For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death. |
