And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 1The LORD said to Moses, |
Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the LORD. | 2"Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings the Israelites consecrate to me, so they will not profane my holy name. I am the LORD. |
Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD. | 3"Say to them: 'For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the LORD. |
What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him; | 4"'If a descendant of Aaron has a defiling skin disease or a bodily discharge, he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is cleansed. He will also be unclean if he touches something defiled by a corpse or by anyone who has an emission of semen, |
Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing, whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath; | 5or if he touches any crawling thing that makes him unclean, or any person who makes him unclean, whatever the uncleanness may be. |
The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water. | 6The one who touches any such thing will be unclean till evening. He must not eat any of the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water. |
And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food. | 7When the sun goes down, he will be clean, and after that he may eat the sacred offerings, for they are his food. |
That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith: I am the LORD. | 8He must not eat anything found dead or torn by wild animals, and so become unclean through it. I am the LORD. |
They shall therefore keep mine ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I the LORD do sanctify them. | 9"'The priests are to perform my service in such a way that they do not become guilty and die for treating it with contempt. I am the LORD, who makes them holy. |
There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or an hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. | 10"'No one outside a priest's family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired worker eat it. |
But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat. | 11But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food. |
If the priest's daughter also be married unto a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things. | 12If a priest's daughter marries anyone other than a priest, she may not eat any of the sacred contributions. |
But if the priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's meat: but there shall no stranger eat thereof. | 13But if a priest's daughter becomes a widow or is divorced, yet has no children, and she returns to live in her father's household as in her youth, she may eat her father's food. No unauthorized person, however, may eat it. |
And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it, and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing. | 14"'Anyone who eats a sacred offering by mistake must make restitution to the priest for the offering and add a fifth of the value to it. |
And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD; | 15The priests must not desecrate the sacred offerings the Israelites present to the LORD |
Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the LORD do sanctify them. | 16by allowing them to eat the sacred offerings and so bring upon them guilt requiring payment. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.'" |
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 17The LORD said to Moses, |
Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them, Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his oblation for all his vows, and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering; | 18"Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them: 'If any of you--whether an Israelite or a foreigner residing in Israel--presents a gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, either to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, |
Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats. | 19you must present a male without defect from the cattle, sheep or goats in order that it may be accepted on your behalf. |
But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you. | 20Do not bring anything with a defect, because it will not be accepted on your behalf. |
And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein. | 21When anyone brings from the herd or flock a fellowship offering to the LORD to fulfill a special vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without defect or blemish to be acceptable. |
Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the LORD. | 22Do not offer to the LORD the blind, the injured or the maimed, or anything with warts or festering or running sores. Do not place any of these on the altar as a food offering presented to the LORD. |
Either a bullock or a lamb that hath any thing superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted. | 23You may, however, present as a freewill offering an ox or a sheep that is deformed or stunted, but it will not be accepted in fulfillment of a vow. |
Ye shall not offer unto the LORD that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land. | 24You must not offer to the LORD an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn or cut. You must not do this in your own land, |
Neither from a stranger's hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you. | 25and you must not accept such animals from the hand of a foreigner and offer them as the food of your God. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are deformed and have defects.'" |
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 26The LORD said to Moses, |
When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD. | 27"When a calf, a lamb or a goat is born, it is to remain with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as a food offering presented to the LORD. |
And whether it be cow or ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day. | 28Do not slaughter a cow or a sheep and its young on the same day. |
And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will. | 29"When you sacrifice a thank offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. |
On the same day it shall be eaten up; ye shall leave none of it until the morrow: I am the LORD. | 30It must be eaten that same day; leave none of it till morning. I am the LORD. |
Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD. | 31"Keep my commands and follow them. I am the LORD. |
Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you, | 32Do not profane my holy name, for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am the LORD, who made you holy |
That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD. | 33and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD." |
