Job 7
NASB Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Berean Study Bible
"Is not man forced to labor on earth, And are not his days like the days of a hired man?1“Is not man consigned to labor on earth? Are not his days like those of a hired hand?
"As a slave who pants for the shade, And as a hired man who eagerly waits for his wages,2Like a slave he longs for shade; like a hireling he waits for his wages.
So am I allotted months of vanity, And nights of trouble are appointed me.3So I am allotted months of futility, and nights of misery are appointed me.
"When I lie down I say, 'When shall I arise?' But the night continues, And I am continually tossing until dawn.4When I lie down I think: ‘When will I get up?’ But the night drags on, and I toss and turn until dawn.
"My flesh is clothed with worms and a crust of dirt, My skin hardens and runs.5My flesh is clothed with worms and encrusted with dirt; my skin is cracked and festering.
"My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, And come to an end without hope.6My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; they come to an end without hope.
"Remember that my life is but breath; My eye will not again see good.7Remember that my life is but a breath. My eyes will never again see happiness.
"The eye of him who sees me will behold me no longer; Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.8The eye that beholds me will no longer see me. You will look for me, but I will be no more.
"When a cloud vanishes, it is gone, So he who goes down to Sheol does not come up.9As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so he who goes down to Sheol does not come back up.
"He will not return again to his house, Nor will his place know him anymore.10He never returns to his house; his place remembers him no more.
"Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.11Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
"Am I the sea, or the sea monster, That You set a guard over me?12Am I the sea, or the monster of the deep, that You must keep me under guard?
"If I say, 'My bed will comfort me, My couch will ease my complaint,'13When I think my bed will comfort me and my couch will ease my complaint,
Then You frighten me with dreams And terrify me by visions;14then You frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions,
So that my soul would choose suffocation, Death rather than my pains.15so that I would prefer strangling and death over my life in this body.
"I waste away; I will not live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.16I loathe my life! I would not live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
"What is man that You magnify him, And that You are concerned about him,17What is man that You should exalt him, that You should set Your heart upon him,
That You examine him every morning And try him every moment?18that You attend to him every morning, and test him every moment?
"Will You never turn Your gaze away from me, Nor let me alone until I swallow my spittle?19Will You never look away from me, or leave me alone to swallow my spittle?
"Have I sinned? What have I done to You, O watcher of men? Why have You set me as Your target, So that I am a burden to myself?20If I have sinned, what have I done to You, O watcher of mankind? Why have You made me Your target, so that I am a burden to You?
"Why then do You not pardon my transgression And take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust; And You will seek me, but I will not be."21Why do You not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For soon I will lie down in the dust; You will seek me, but I will be no more.”
