Corinthians 12
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware.1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led.2You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led.
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;
There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;8For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
For the body is not one member, but many.14For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.15If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.16And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?17If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?
But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.18But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.
If they were all one member, where would the body be?19If all were a single member, where would the body be?
But now there are many members, but one body.20As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”
On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;22On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable,23and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,
whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,24which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,
so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.25that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.26If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.27Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.28And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they?29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?30Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?
But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.31But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.
