New American Standard Bible 1995 | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? | 1If any of you has a legal dispute against another, do you dare go to court before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? |
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? | 2Or don't you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest cases? |
Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? | 3Don't you know that we will judge angels--not to mention ordinary matters? |
So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church? | 4So if you have cases pertaining to this life, do you select those who have no standing in the church to judge? |
I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his brethren, | 5I say this to your shame! Can it be that there is not one wise person among you who is able to arbitrate between his brothers? |
but brother goes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers? | 6Instead, believer goes to court against believer, and that before unbelievers! |
Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? | 7Therefore, to have legal disputes against one another is already a moral failure for you. Why not rather put up with injustice? Why not rather be cheated? |
On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren. | 8Instead, you act unjustly and cheat--and you do this to believers! |
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, | 9Don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality, |
nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. | 10no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God's kingdom. |
Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. | 11And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." |
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. | 12Everything is permissible for me," but not everything is helpful. "Everything is permissible for me," but I will not be brought under the control of anything. " |
Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. | 13Food for the stomach and the stomach for food," but God will do away with both of them. The body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. |
Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. | 14God raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. |
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! | 15Don't you know that your bodies are a part of Christ's body? So should I take a part of Christ's body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not! |
Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH." | 16Don't you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh. |
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. | 17But anyone joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. |
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. | 18Run from sexual immorality! "Every sin a person can commit is outside the body." On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. |
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? | 19Don't you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, |
For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. | 20for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body. |
