| 1Who is this who comes from Edom, With garments of glowing colors from Bozrah, This One who is majestic in His apparel, Marching in the greatness of His strength? "It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." | 1Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah-- this One who is splendid in His apparel, rising up proudly in His great might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save. |
| 2Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like the one who treads in the wine press? | 2Why are Your clothes red, and Your garments like one who treads a winepress? |
| 3"I have trodden the wine trough alone, And from the peoples there was no man with Me. I also trod them in My anger And trampled them in My wrath; And their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments, And I stained all My raiment. | 3I trampled the winepress alone, and no one from the nations was with Me. I trampled them in My anger and ground them underfoot in My fury; their blood spattered My garments, and all My clothes were stained. |
| 4"For the day of vengeance was in My heart, And My year of redemption has come. | 4For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of My redemption came. |
| 5"I looked, and there was no one to help, And I was astonished and there was no one to uphold; So My own arm brought salvation to Me, And My wrath upheld Me. | 5I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so My arm accomplished victory for Me, and My wrath assisted Me. |
| 6"I trod down the peoples in My anger And made them drunk in My wrath, And I poured out their lifeblood on the earth." | 6I crushed nations in My anger; I made them drunk with My wrath and poured out their blood on the ground. |
| 7I shall make mention of the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, the praises of the LORD, According to all that the LORD has granted us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has granted them according to His compassion And according to the abundance of His lovingkindnesses. | 7I will make known the LORD's faithful love and the LORD's praiseworthy acts, because of all the LORD has done for us-- even the many good things He has done for the house of Israel and has done for them based on His compassion and the abundance of His faithful love. |
| 8For He said, "Surely, they are My people, Sons who will not deal falsely." So He became their Savior. | 8He said, "They are indeed My people, children who will not be disloyal," and He became their Savior. |
| 9In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old. | 9In all their suffering, He suffered, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. He redeemed them because of His love and compassion; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past. |

| 11Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? | 13Who led them through the depths? Like the horse in the wilderness, they did not stumble; | 13and led them through the depths like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not stumble. |
| 14As the cattle which go down into the valley, The Spirit of the LORD gave them rest. So You led Your people, To make for Yourself a glorious name. | 14Like cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD gave them rest. | 15Look down from heaven and see from Your holy and glorious habitation; Where are Your zeal and Your mighty deeds? Your yearning and Your compassion are withheld from me. |
| 16For You are our Father, though Abraham does not know us And Israel does not recognize us. You, Yahweh, are our Father; from ancient times, Your name is our Redeemer. |
| 17Why, O LORD, do You cause us to stray from Your ways And harden our heart from fearing You? Return for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your heritage. | 17Why, Yahweh, do You make us stray from Your ways? You harden our hearts so we do not fear You. Return, because of Your servants, the tribes of Your heritage. |
| 18Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while, Our adversaries have trodden it down. | 18Your holy people had a possession for a little while, but our enemies have trampled down Your sanctuary. |
| 19We have become like those over whom You have never ruled, Like those who were not called by Your name. | 19We have become like those You never ruled over, like those not called by Your name. |
