For the choir director; according to Shushan Eduth. A Mikhtam of David, to teach; when he struggled with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. O God, You have rejected us. You have broken us; You have been angry; O, restore us. | 1To the chief Musician upon Shushaneduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again. |
You have made the land quake, You have split it open; Heal its breaches, for it totters. | 2Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh. |
You have made Your people experience hardship; You have given us wine to drink that makes us stagger. | 3Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment. |
You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. | 4Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. |
That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and answer us! | 5That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me. |
God has spoken in His holiness: "I will exult, I will portion out Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth. | 6God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth. |
"Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet of My head; Judah is My scepter. | 7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver; |
"Moab is My washbowl; Over Edom I shall throw My shoe; Shout loud, O Philistia, because of Me!" | 8Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me. |
Who will bring me into the besieged city? Who will lead me to Edom? | 9Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom? |
Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us? And will You not go forth with our armies, O God? | 10Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies? |
O give us help against the adversary, For deliverance by man is in vain. | 11Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. |
Through God we shall do valiantly, And it is He who will tread down our adversaries. | 12Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies. |
