| 1Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time for prayer, at three o'clock in the afternoon. | 1Now Peter and John were going up together to the temple complex at the hour of prayer at three in the afternoon. |
| 2And a man lame from birth was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called "the Beautiful Gate" every day so he could beg for money from those going into the temple courts. | 2And a man who was lame from birth was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex. |
| 3When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts, he asked them for money. | 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple complex, he asked for help. |

| 12When Peter saw this, he declared to the people, "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? | 16And on the basis of faith in Jesus' name, his very name has made this man--whom you see and know--strong. | 22Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.
