| 1It is actually reported that sexual immorality exists among you, the kind of immorality that is not permitted even among the Gentiles, so that someone is cohabiting with his father's wife. | 1It is actually reported that sexual immorality exists among you, and of a kind that is not found even among the gentiles. | 2And you are proud! Shouldn't you have been deeply sorrowful instead and removed the one who did this from among you? | 2And you are being arrogant instead of being filled with grief and seeing to it that the man who did this is removed from among you. |
| 3For even though I am absent physically, I am present in spirit. And I have already judged the one who did this, just as though I were present. | 3Even though I am away from you physically, I am with you in spirit. I have already passed judgment on the man who did this, as though I were present with you. |

| 9I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. | 9I wrote to you in my letter to stop associating with people who are sexually immoral— |
| 10In no way did I mean the immoral people of this world, or the greedy and swindlers and idolaters, since you would then have to go out of the world. | 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, greedy, robbers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. |
| 11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who calls himself a Christian who is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idolater, or verbally abusive, or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. | 11But now I am writing to you to stop associating with any so-called brother if he is sexually immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunk, or a robber. You must even stop eating with someone like that. |
| 12For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Are you not to judge those inside? | 12After all, is it my business to judge outsiders? You are to judge those who are in the community, aren't you? |
| 13But God will judge those outside. Remove the evil person from among you. | 13God will judge outsiders. "Expel that wicked man." |
