1This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.1These are the records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, to whom descendants were born after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras.2Japheth's descendants included Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah.3Gomer's descendants included Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.4Javan's descendants included Elisha, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim,
5(From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.)5from whom the coastal peoples spread into their own lands and nations, each with their own language and family groups.
6The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.6Ham's descendants included Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.7Cush's descendants included Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. Raamah's descendants included Sheba and Dedan.
8Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.8Cush fathered Nimrod, who became the first fearless leader throughout the land.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD."9He became a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD."
10The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.10His kingdom began in the region of Shinar with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.
11From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah11From there he went north to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,
12and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah--which is the great city.12along with Resen, which was located between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
13Egypt was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,13Egypt fathered the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
14Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.14the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from which came the Philistines), and the Caphtorites.
15Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, along with the Hittites,
16Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite families were widely scattered.
19and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.19The Canaanite border extended south from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and east toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
20These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.20These are Ham's descendants, listed by their families, each with their own lands, language, and family groups.
21Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.21Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had descendants. Shem was the father of the descendants of Eber.
22The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.22Shem's sons included Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
23The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.23Aram's descendants included Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah the father of Eber.24Arpachshad fathered Cainan, Cainan fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.25To Eber were born two sons. One was named Peleg, because the earth was divided during his lifetime. His brother was named Joktan.
26Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's descendants.
30The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.30Their settlements extended from Mesha towards Sephar, the eastern hill country.

32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations.
