1The LORD said to Moses,

1The LORD told Moses,

2"Command the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries:

2"Issue these orders to the Israelis: 'You're about to enter the land of Canaan. This territory has been apportioned to you as your inheritance: the entire land of Canaan, all the way to its borders.'"

3"'Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea,

3"'To your south is the Wilderness of Zin, bordering Edom. Your southern border is to extend east toward the far end of the Dead Sea,

4cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon,

4then it is to turn southward to the ascent of Akrabbim, cross Zin, and then run south of Kadesh-barnea and proceed from there to Hazar-addar and across to Azmon.

5where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.

5Then the border is to turn from Azmon toward the wadi of Egypt and from there to the Mediterranean Sea.'"

6"'Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This will be your boundary on the west.

6"'The western border is to be the Mediterranean Sea. This is to be the western border.'"

7"'For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor

7"'Your northern border is to extend from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor.

8and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad,

8From Mount Hor, you are to mark out the entrance to Hammath, with the border running through Zedad,

9continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north.

9then through Ziphron, and then to Hazar-enan. This is to be the northern border.'"

10"'For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.

10"'You are to mark the border on the east from Hazar-enan to Shepham.

11The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.

11The border is then to extend from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, then to the Sea of Chinnereth on the east.

12Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. "'This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.'"

12The border is to continue along the Jordan River all the way to the Dead Sea. This is to be your land, as measured by its boundaries.'"

13Moses commanded the Israelites: "Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The LORD has ordered that it be given to the nine-and-a-half tribes,

13Moses commanded the Israelis, "You are to inherit this land by lot, just as the LORD commanded to give it to the remaining nine and a half tribes.

14because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.

14The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, as defined by their ancestral houses, have received their inheritance.

15These two-and-a-half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise."

15These two and a half tribes received their inheritance this side of the Jordan River, east of Jericho, facing the rising sun."

16The LORD said to Moses,

16Then the LORD told Moses,

17"These are the names of the men who are to assign the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.

17"These are the names of the men who are to divide the land for your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Nun's son Joshua.

18And appoint one leader from each tribe to help assign the land.

18You are to appoint a leader from each tribe to divide the land for inheritance.

19These are their names: Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the tribe of Judah;

19These are the names of the men: Appoint Jephunneh's son Caleb from the tribe of Judah,

20Shemuel son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Simeon;

20Ammihud's son Shemuel from the tribe of Simeon,

21Elidad son of Kislon, from the tribe of Benjamin;

21Chislon's son Elidad from the tribe of Benjamin,

22Bukki son of Jogli, the leader from the tribe of Dan;

22and Jogli's son Bukki is to be leader of the tribe of Dan.

23Hanniel son of Ephod, the leader from the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph;

23From the tribe of Joseph, you are to appoint Ephod's son Hanniel to be leader of the half tribe of Manasseh,

24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, the leader from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph;

24Shiphtan's son Kemuel to be leader of the half tribe of Ephraim,

25Elizaphan son of Parnak, the leader from the tribe of Zebulun;

25Parnach's son Elizaphan to be leader of the tribe of Zebulun,

26Paltiel son of Azzan, the leader from the tribe of Issachar;

26Azzan's son Paltiel to be leader of the tribe of Issachar,

27Ahihud son of Shelomi, the leader from the tribe of Asher;

27Shelomi's son Ahihud to be leader of the tribe of Asher,

28Pedahel son of Ammihud, the leader from the tribe of Naphtali."

28and Ammihud's son Pedahel to be leader of the tribe of Naphtali."

29These are the men the LORD commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.

29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance of the Israelis in the land of Canaan.
